Dug out my 6 year old Turbo Cool 510 SLI psu today to temporarily use with a build for a friend.

Tested it by plugging it up to an old biostar board and E5300, before i connected it to the new i3 and asus mobo.

Plugged 24pin, 4pin to mobo. Plugged up case power switch. Plugged in kettle lead to psu. Switched psu on. Pressed power button... BANG!

Spark shot out one of the molex connectors onto the aluminum cd bezel blowing it out of the case. The fuse blew and the mains tripped out.

Needless to say, the PSU is now in the bin and I'm very glad i wasn't touching the metal case when i pressed the power button!

Do it again and film it, if you don't post ill assume you died trying this and send flowers to the next funeral i hear of in sheffield.. Goodluck OP

you didnt turn it on first without connecting it up to your pc?

i bet there were a few lumps in your underwear after that!!!haha

No, but I will def test PSUs with a paperclip between green/black wire on 24pins from now on before connecting to expensive parts!

Unlucky - were the other parts ok ?

Ouch, anything else damaged?

Despite there being two seagate HDDs, a Samsung DVD drive, two sticks of ram, a mobo and a cpu in the case, nothing except the power supply was damaged!
The spark that blew the bezzle out the front of the case was between the dvd drive and the hdd, but I amazingly they are both working perfectly

PSU 110% dead. Long live the PSU.

Feel free to send me your half dead power supplies and I'll try to replicate for an OCUK You've Been Framed

I blew both of mine manually. Its incredible fun to pour epoxy resin into your psu then sit and wait. Somethings gona melt or go bang
