Not been on here for years, I used to have a Modded Honda prelude Import, but due to a bit of "off roading" and it never being right after the off, i decided to break it. The sale of the engine covered the cost of the car I replaced it with.

A 1988 E34 BMW 535i SE with 147k on the clock for £350, which has been trouble free motoring for the last 6 months and having a car you don't care about is deffo the way to go, you can park it anywhere and you don't notice any dings or scratches cos it's covered in them anyway.

It's due it's MOT next month and i'm pretty sure it's not gonna pass, so rather than spend any money on it, i'll ether flog it as a drift project (got a spare set of wheels and a welded diff to go with it) or rip the engine out and flog that and scrap the rest.

Problem is what to replace it with?

Sub £500 budget, cheaper the better, needs at least 6 months MOT on it
Largeish sized, don't like driving around in tin cans.
Reasonably economical (Currently get 29mpg on long runs from a 3.4L engine, but would like better)
Not fussed if it's a hatch, saloon or estate

Lets see what you guys suggest.

Scorpio ??
Either the 2.3 or 2.9 are good fun & well specced for banger money.
The 2.9 24v has 200+BHP

I have a 1998 2.5 TDI Ghia Estate :D

Another BMW to be honest if you like your current one, perhaps a newer E34, either that or an old 7-series. I would suggest an old Merc as it would probably be the nicest drive and the most reliable out of anything large and old, but i doubt you will find anything in budget.
