I have a couple of nights in Bangkok next month. Not after anything wild, just a couple of nights in a reasonably relaxed and pleasant hotel. Any recommendations, preferably for not more than £150 per night?

For £150 there’s loads of choice and if you choose one with decent reviews you can’t really go wrong

If you don’t want anything fancy there’s a load of cheap options ~£40 that are good for just somewhere to sleep

I would choose the Sofitel Sukhumvit or the Hyatt Regency Sukhumvit if either come in budget

The

Siam Kempinski

is gorgeous though probably over budget and I prefer to be on Sukhumvit

A lot depends what sort of thing you want to do while you're there. Sukhumvit area is more... I don't want to say "Westernized" but it's definitely more "global". If you're looking for reasonably high-end or non-Thai bars and restaurants, that area's probably your safest bet.

If you want somewhere that still feels a bit more Thai without people looking surprised when you walk into a 7-11, then maybe Bang Rak area (near Saphan Taksin BTS station) would be a good shout. Still has some swanky bars but a lot more of a real Thailand feel, IMO, and there are a few hotels on the river near the station.

If you want to wander around and really get a feel for the older parts of BKK, then somewhere over in Thonburi might be for you. That's more of a daytime thing though (no idea if you're there for work or passing through on holiday).

Honestly, the first thing I look at for accomodation in BKK is how close it is to a BTS or MRT station. Nothing worse than starting your day, or evening, with a sweaty half-mile walk! That is assuming, of course, that you won't have a personal driver during your stay :p

Good shout, ive stayed around the BangRak area a lot

TowerClub at Lebua (State Tower) of The Hangover 2 fame is a decent stay for the price , i paid just over a £100 the last time I stayed (which admitted;y was a few years ago now) - very big room, one of the best buffet breakfasts I’ve ever had or can go to the club lounge for breakfast - after breakfast they have complimentary snacks and drinks until it’s time for afternoon tea , which includes free alcoholic drinks

Shangri-la - been close to 20 years since I stayed here but again had the club room with all the usual stuff chucked in , free evening drinks and canapés in the club lounge - great for getting in the mood before a night out

Millennium Hilton - across the river from the Shangri-la and Lebua , nice hotel with very cosy room , great dinner buffet at one of their restaurants (especially the Sunday brunch) - right next door to Icon Siam if you want to shop a bit

These hotels are in a great location for the BTS

Personally these days me and my missus (who is from Thailand) tend to look for cheap stays in Bangkok that are close to public transport , as long as the hotel is clean and comfy we’re happy to save a few £ and put the savings to better use as , we’re rarely in the hotel anyways except to sleep

I stayed in the Sukhumvit area a few weeks back. Specifically Nysa Hotel - Sukhumvit 11. Really impressed with the hotel. Price was around £140 a night.

Thanks everyone! Nysa Hotel sounds like a good recommendation and well within budget, but I'll have a proper read through the thread after work tonight and book somewhere.

took a look a that, £140 seems very high for what it looks like and for that area

also seems quite a way down 11, do they have golf carts like other places do?

Wow. I'm talking complete rubbish. I've just checked the booking. It was £330 for 4 nights. So £82.50 per night.

They had a free shuttle bus thing which did a loop around the local area.
