Just went into Lloyds in the main 4 foyer part , theres 4 ATMs lined up , someone forgot their cash , i didnt see who it was and it was 30 pounds , i went out to look but couldnt see anyone trying to find there money , am i legally obliged to take it back where do i stand ?

You should have just left it - the machine would have taken it back in.

I'd return it to the bank ASAP. Anything else is plainly theft and you'll be on CCTV doing it :).

if you take it to the police and it isnt claimed u can have it after so long cant you?
It's like 6 weeks isnt it? Still, good on you for giving it back, most people would've just nabbed it

Inside a bank with CCTV covering every square inch? You'd have to be a bit 'special' not to give it back, regardless of any moral issues :).

I'd imagine there are quite a few people out there who'd still try it though :p

Last time I saw this happen was at a Tesco cashpoint.
Somebody had left I think it was £50 in the cashpoint next to me.
No idea who it was and although I knew eventually it would have taken the cash back it was beeping away quite loudly, making itself very known and I knew that not everyone is honest.
I took it into the store and handed it in.

I checked back on the status the following week (out of interest).
There was a quick "thank you" note and £10 waiting for me in an envelope for my trouble.
