You could but it all depends on how far away you are.. edinburgh castle is fairly close to Princess Street (where i was located, with 99,999 others lol) And the fireworks were aimed to go up and over to us. They were Europes largest firework display.. so easily filled my full shooting area.
But if you goto other displays you may find you'll not need that wide a lens. certainly for the local November fireworks i think i was using between 28-50 to capture them as they were not as "huge" but still equally impressive - ain't all fireworks?
