Does anyone know, how long it takes to transfer money from a LLoyds TSB account to a HSBC account ?

I thought BT was almost instand ( within a few hours )

AFAIK, instantly or up to 2 hours. Have always transferred between them and 90% it's instant, only once it took ~1 hour.

From Lloyds to HSBC. From HSBC to Lloyds. 90% instantaneously.

hmmm sold something on the mm last night
gave my details, and recieved email this morning saying i many not receive payment for upto 4 working days
just checked online now and no payment

Whoops! Don't know how I missed that.

I've had transfers inward from HSBC banks a few times and they've been instant.

You sure the buyer didn't set a date on the transfer by chance or is he on a savings account?

i dont know, but if i knew it was going to take upto 4 working days i would have possibly not sold it.

ive mailed him just now, hopefully he will contact me in a bit

I was under the impression it was only instant if it was transfering between the same branch?

No, it's the Faster Payment System Acid mentions above and all (?) the major banks are on it now.

The old style BACS can still take 3 working days afaik, but that doesn't get used as much.

Just to update

The buyer has been in touch with me.
A mistake on his part, set up an international transfer and not a UK transfer.
The international transfer has been cancelled and the UK transfer has been recieved in my account.

Acid is correct with two banks on the faster payment scheme its either instantaneous or completed within a couple of hours. If the beneficiary bank is not on faster payments however it can take from a few hours up to 3 days ( believe me they are still some out there).
