I finish my uni course next april ish, graduate in june ?

My bank rang me up today to tell me i owe them £1600 and i have no overdraft facility. That this has been the case since SEPTEMBER and they didnt send me a letter or even phone me to tell me this.

I told them my course ends in april 2011 and that i apparently get a courtesy year before i need to pay it back.

I dont understand this at all.

They also claim i owe them the interest since september (a lot) and that whilst they can put the overdraft back to normal and refund the interest, they cannot reinstate my good credit rating. So my CR goes down because of a mistake at their end. GRRR

Financial regulator is your first step if they refuse to admit their mistake.

However most banks have a set procedure for official complaints you have to go through first, not just phoning a call centre but actually sending a written formal complaint.

If it's really entirely their fault they'll easily be able to correct any credit history problems. Sounds like they don't think it's entirely their fault.

Do you still have a copy of the overdraft/student loan T&C's? Send a letter to the bank manager explaining and see what he says? Cant hurt really can it? He might turn out to be a nice guy and sort it out for you.

Have you considered stalking the owner of the bank?

Well they probably do own a RR Phantom, which is a dressed up BMW, so it is a possibility, good shout!

With twoblacklines, there is always another side to the story :).

Ok your right. Im not a student, I dont have a student account at all, I lied, I am a multi billionaire, I own all the banks, thats why i have nothing better to do at the moment than browse forums. My life sucks, i wish i was a poor student :(

Bets this is the "final notice" of the 16 he's received since September

I havent recieved any post from them at all!

What bank is it? Im a bit confused, do you have a student account or not? Because they always come with an overdraft.

Depends on the terms and conditions of the agreement in terms of the Overdraft facility.

Halifax/Bank of Scotland for example needs to see credits coming in the account each quarter to a certain amount to prevent breaking the agreement of the student account. This is similar with the Royal Bank of Scotland too and other banks.

I take it the account has fallen in line with the terms and conditions set out when opening it?

Did they tell you WHY you no longer have an overdraft facility?? If not, whey did you not ask?

Doesn't happen to be Santander does it? I've had REAL problems with them, luckily my parents bailed me out by about £800.

Though I managed to get £700 back, though I still think I should've got the full amount. Anyways that's not the point lol.

Basically dude at the bottom of each bank statement is something along the lines of "osmand group" I can't remember the name but you'll find it on a statement, they're the people to go to for problems, it's how I got my money back.

The bank's own steps just take too long and make you jump through hoops, on top of that you probably won't get jack from them that way.

Basically just look at the bottom of your statement, hope I helped dude.

Cooperative/SMILE not Santander.

They are wierd, they told me on the phone ages ago that they dont send mail then literally, the next day, i got mail off them. No mail this time.

They told me im not at uni, so i no longer have an overdraft (had £1600 interest free overdraft).

The overdraft facility agreement states i have it untill i finish uni + one whole year before i have to pay it, or any interest off. Ive not even finished uni yet im 2 months into my final year!

So its a bit unnerving that i owe a bank £1600 + interest + daily overdraft charges on bothj the £1600 and the interest, and they didnt think to tell me this for 2 months ?
