At the title says im banned from steam...ok thing is havent played on steam for what could be over a year...I know a really long time atleast as didnt have the money foar a computer.

Now I have a computer turns out im banned from VAC for something the FAQ says they wont tell me or overturn.

Anyone hear any stories about them overturning bans etc? know its a long shot but "honest gov it wasnt me!!"

Can I play the freedom of information thing so atleast I can find out what they are accusing me of?

kicked in the nuts for no reason.... :(

second hand pc or stolen account - you should be able to contact them to undo it, otherwise it would be unreasonable to remove your access to your paid games.

I'm sure they've heard all the excuses under the sun before.
VAC isn't a loss of your paid for games, anyway. You simply lose access to play on VAC enabled servers on the game engine you were banned from. For example: If you get banned on a source engine game, you will be VAC banned from all other games which use the source engine, but on games which use the quake engine, you will be able to play absolutely fine.

OP it's very unlikely you'll get your account un-VAC'd, but it doesn't mean you have lost these games, you just can't play the multiplayer. So either: Make a new account and re-buy the games which engine you are banned from, or keep buying games on this account and don't play the games you were VAC'd from.

Hope you get it sorted!

Things like this suck when the affected party hasn't actually done anything wrong (assuming!).

Let us know what happens.

I just went online to play team fortress because I noticed I had a few free things with my deus ex purchase then it said I couldnt even play the tutorial as its a vac server lol....This is why I hate free services you get no level of customer support.

Ive logged into steam on other computers in the past but this is the first time for this one. If i had done something i would keep quite but really intrested to see how far I can take this now.

If you've been banned then you or somebody with access to your account has broken the TOS. There is nothing you can say or do to overturn the ban.

It'd be nice to know why exactly you were banned I guess, but this is final.

As above, you should only be banned from the game engine they detected you cheating on. You shouldn't lose access to any actual content.

That. They won't overturn your ban because there's just too many ways for hackers to exploit the system in that case. Check on the vacbans website posted above, and check your steam profile page, it will say if you have bans on profile there, or in steam hit the steam menu in the top left > Settings, and on the account tab, it will say Vac Status: <something>

Yep, couple of months ago managed to overturn sudden VAC ban.

Banned for no reason, along with abnormally large number of others over 48hr period, apparently caused by an update causing steam to throw a hissy fit (Of which they never confirmed or denied). So I contacted steam support along with moaning on steam forum; and shortly after they lifted VAC ban. But as said in my case there was a sudden widespread ban wave, so I don't fancy your chances :(

There's been a couple of FP's. MW2 was the large one, but I didn't even know about that mentioned TF2 one. But I doubt that's going to be relevant here since the OP states he's not been using the account for a year. Therefore the only option I could see is that his account has been compromised.

Happend end of June, 29th in my case iirc.

If you search "For those hit by the recent ban wave over the past two days" over in VAC section of steam forum; then you should find the TF2 June ban wave thread.

But I doubt that's going to be relevant here since the OP states he's not been using the account for a year.

Imo it could be; if steam admins check OP's account info and see this ban became active on 29th or 30th June; chances are he will be un-banned. Yes he might be lying, can't hurt bringing the ban wave to his attention as it could well be involved.
