Banner ad help

I'm trying to create some animated banner ads using photoshop. I created one following the tutorial here.

It's currently got a transparent background. If I open a new document with a white background, when I insert an image it's covered by the background.

Can someone tell me how to get a coloured background that I can put images on top of please?

on the right hand side, under layers, move the white background to the bottom.

When you open a new document you can select the background to be transparent.
