I need something to add to this, it looks abit plain and abit boring, how can i spruce it up, would like to add something I.T related to it.

  • Colour (main culprit)
  • Add shapes to the plain chrome background (e.g. a translucent wave,) stop it simply being a solid block of metal, add variety
  • A more interesting font with a style rather than just a solid colour
  • Do something with the cables rather than them just sprouting from the top
etc.

dude! colour! with greys you're seriously lacking in impact with all those gradients, for text such as links. etc. i think you need to spice it up with a colour, red, blue, green, pink, orange...

This is awful but it just shows what some colour (& pattern) will add. I have honestly no idea, because it's really really wide, are you sure 1000px is how wide your site is? :)

Its not 1000px wide no, but iv had to extend it because it cuts short on widescreens...if i lower it again back to 890 it will display fine on my work monitor but will be cut short on the widescreen at home.

I thought the whole point of designing websites is to keep within a range of colors, if i start sticking blues, whites, purples in my banner isnt it going to look out of place?

Yeh, using 1 or 2 complementary colours over the top of your tones of black and white can work well, for example on my personal website which i'm testing at the mo (upleft test) i have a grey background and white content, but am using red/pink to add vibrancy, i'm only about 50% of the way through that though so you'll find problems with that easily.

I think if you choose a colour to dominate the header, whether it be from an image, then you could use this for hyperlinks or on the navigation as well, you just need to find those complimentary colours though. :)

Do you have any suggestions on colors i can use? im not the best when matching up colors, as you can see :p
