Barbs or Compression?

Hey guys/gals

I was just wondering if your free to use both barbed fittings and compression. From my eyeballs I can see that both would be fine but I just want to confirm this! The pipes I want for my new build say "Designed for use with 1/2" barbs"

You can use both together. A compression a basically a barb with a thread behind it, with a threaded nut to compress the tubing on the barb.

You can mix barbs and comp fittings in a loop as long as they are the correct size.

Barbs are for cheapness, comp fittings are for showy showy

Just what I thought, Thanks for the quick response guys, I'm likely to go with compression now.. although I am partial to the black barbs with the brushed metal hose clamps!

Sorry to jump into this thread but I have a question about compression fittings

When doing them up, how tight do you tighten them.

I did my current compression fittings tight, if they are on tight trust me they will still unscrew easy if you need to get to to the innards easy

What did you use to tighten then, just your hand and a cloth ?

Hand tight.
Some of the hard to reach ones, use a cloth...because they actually hurt your fingers tightening them...that's probably me though.

You'll know when they're tight enough, they get progressively harder to do up
