Barclaycard customers beware...

That's pretty dodgy, if they are deliberately moving the date for payment forward to try and catch people out :(

I always pay my card off in full every month, and know that the statement date is around X day and the payment date is around Y day give or take a weekend (so i pay it a week+ earlier normally) - if they move it forward and cause me to pay it in late i'll be rather irratated.
AFAIK my payment date for example hasn't changed in the past 10 years, except for 2-3 day variations to allow for weekends, and at christmas.

I suspect it's because they make no money from people who pay in full

Of course with all the favourable conditions being offered by other CCs people will just cancel their cards. But then perhaps thats what they want, to get rid of the customers that aren't making them enough money. I wouldn't be staying with them if they tried that with me (fortunately I don't have a CC with them).

I'll keep an eye on mine as I too pay in full a few days before the date, this is pretty dodgy imo

If they do this to my I'll be somewhat annoyed and will swich CC's been with Barclaycard for 5 years now

i'm pretty much totally moved away from them anyway, too many good deals on other cards and they cut all their benifits, now this, which is just bloody cheeky (having said that i'm sure most banks do dodgey things like this all the time, there just not silly enough to talk about it openly

I think they are!

I've had a BarclayCard for about three years now. I did run up a bill in my first term at Uni but paid it off over the next two terms in full.

I then just used it for emergencies and always paid it off. It lay dormant for a year or two and I got a letter over Christmas saying that they will cancel my account unless I use my card

I just let them cancel the account. It's better not to have the temptation anyway!

I spend a fair amount of the year over seas so i use my credit card so as to protect any purchase, 4 years ago i changed to Mastercard (on my wifes advice as she works in finance) and have not had any problems. All my Internet purchases are apid for by my credit card and because these are made thru other countries i have ended up with a Platinum Card with a huge (and i mean huge) limit, i only spend about £100 a month on it and pay it off immidiatly.

He said Barclaycard was "having to face up to the fact that clearly we are not making as much money out of customers that pay their bill in full as we are out of those that borrow", he said.

How long did that take you to figure out???

Can someone please think of a better word than stupid cause' it doesn't quite do this guy justice.

he said.

I think just about all credit card companies have started milking their customers for everything they can get. How many people have had their rates increased recently despite no change in the base rate?

As soon as i've finished paying of my outstanding balance with Barclaycard i'm closing the account. Thought about it after they increasd the APR to 19.9% a few months ago, this has just confirmed it after 6 years. Far too many better offers out there at the moment.

Barclays decided to drop me a £20 bill after paying a credit card bill, greedy gits, i'll be moving my money soon. Shame really as i've been with them for over 12 years!

What a load of bankers

Ive been with them since my Uni days (about 7/8years now) and I religiously pay off my balance every month as I use it only for net purchases - I have to admit I never really look at my statement and just pay it when I remember to (2/3rds into the month usually)...

I think I might move from them - anyone have any decent recommendations? Ive never had an ongoing balance and use it mainly for security, I also ensure I have a low credit limit in case.

The new EGG card on the TV ads sounds good - Barclaycard has slapped my wrist too many times when Ive put more money in than I should becuase Im expecting to spend a lot (i.e PC or something) - even had them freeze it once. Embarrasing is not even the word when you go and attempt to make a big purchase (£1000+) and it is rejected even though you know you have more than enough to cover it

Just realised I hate them with a passion

Your not wrong there mate, Just before i left Iraq i bought a ***** load of stuff for a new PC without a problem. got home and was buying a new pair of walking boots but the card was refused, was a little embarressing but i paid cash, my wife phoned then up and they said that they felt the payment may have been fruedulent. £1200 spent in Iraq was OK but £120 spent in Brentwood was deemed dodgy.
Im now with M<astercard for my Internet purchases and apart from the odd phonecall at home (they check large purchases online :D ) ive had no probs, they know i spend time in unusual countries so make the odd call to my missus to confirm the purchase.

Egg Money is fine if you pay it off/keep it in credit (which you say you do). It's nowhere near the best if you don't. Beware that Egg also have a habit of pulling out the rug when it suits them - they used to offer 1% cashback on the older Egg (green) card, but that's been wiped out.

Well in an ideal world Id put in say £1000 and leave it there slowly dwindling and then top it up every quarter or when necessary...

The offeres for 0% on balance transfers or on purchases for a limited time just dont work for me since I rarely would use the opportunity - having a reward for spending or having credit would be more useful...

Errr with Smile my statement date is 27th of each month and if I pay in full its due by the 10th ... if I make a partial payment its by the 22nd? (I.e. purchases are interest free for about 45 days I believe it is)..

I thought this was common among banks?

But still if they moved my payment date to even the first of the month it would be no problem, the second I get an email saying your statement is ready is the second its paid off (could always reset up the direct debit, but I canceled that as it was too restrictive).
