Barcode scanner/software

Hiya. Have been asked to impliment a barcode scanning into a shop now i understand this is quite a big thing to do. But im wondering if anyone has done this before?

I've worked out that i would need:

PC to store database,
Barcode Scanner,
Barcode Printer,
Labels,
Software to print Invoices etc..

Is there anything else that i would need?

Also any info on any of the above to check out would be appreciated!

Anyone else have any ideas please?

have set up a small access database, but its not really what i want. Im looking for some software that looks at the database and prints off a nice looking invoice and keeps a record etc.
