Havent been able to find much that makes sense on the internet but is there a way to scan a barcode and include a tab key function (or several tab keys) after that? Eg Scan barcode and press tab key 5 times to move to next field

Posted this in the software forum rather than hardware as I thought there might be some software that can do it but not knowing much about it perhaps its built into the scanner depending on which one you have?

Hi,

It depends on the scanner, but most come with a book full of barcodes that allow you to configure the behaviour of the scanner.

This will include what is also passed back after having read a barcode successfully e.g. Carriage Return, Tab etc.

What is it the make & model of the scanner?

Regards

Thanks for the info, sounds promising.

I dont have a scanner as yet, was just doing some research into them before purchasing one. Can you recommend one that will be suitable or the type that I should go for perhaps?

Hi,

I'm just having a further look into the Tab, or rather the X Tabs you require.

I know from experience that you can configure the Suffix that is sent after the scanning of the barcode, but I'm trying to see about configuring where you'd have 5 Tabs.

A make to look at would be Metrologic and the model would depend on the environment and application it's for.

Out of interest, I presume as you require it to Tab five times you're scanning into a spreadsheet?

Regards

Its actually for Sage Line 50 and/or Quickbooks. When you open up a new invoice it defaults to the correct box that you could scan a barcode in for the product ID you then have to either click into the box below or hit tab 5 times to get to the next line. Enter key doesnt work as it automatically saves the invoice.

EDIT - it wouldnt be the end of the world if it doesnt work and you have to click into the new line but the more efficient I can make it the better.

Thanks

Datalogic scanners come with a software configuration called Aladdin, which allows you to set the suffix, as well as many other things for the scanner.

Hi,

Well it appears using a Voyager 1200g you shouldn't have any problems in sending the 5 Tabs you require after the scanning of the barcode.

If you have a look at Page 113 (5-1) Prefix/Suffix Overview it explains in details their use and the steps required to configure the reader to do this.

Hope this helps?

Regards

izzop, Confused, many thanks for the help. The Voyager 1200g looks to do exactly what I want. The datalogic scanners seem to be a bit cheaper so will have a look at them and see if I can find the manual as I need to buy 4 of them.

Having had a quick look I was going to see if the Touch 65 might do the job as it is compatible with the Aladdin software but not sure if its worth going for a better scanner?
