Once again, Sitepoint are having a sale of IT related books under the guise of an Advent calendar - look HERE.

In their words:
For the next 24 days, we've got 24 deals with massive SAVINGS of up to 80% OFF our top selling books, ebooks, and kits.

ps - hope it is OK to post this, Sitepoint is a publisher, not really a competitor - and it IS Christmas, or nearly so :)

This Saturday's three epack offerings at $7 each are
  • Simply JavaScript
  • Simply Rails 2
  • Simply SQL
    • Or all three for $17, a saving of 80%!

Sitepoint are as pointed out an Australian company and since these are ebooks, there is no postage charge.

I have in the past bought both ebooks and printed editions of books by these people (LAMP, Linux, Web-site development and design, etc.) - they focus on web-site development and personally I would say that their books are excellent. I like the ebook versions because I can conveniently carry them about on a laptop :)

really should we be learning javascript in this day and age or one of the libraries like JQuery?

Learn javascript first, then jQuery.
So often I see people use jQuery inefficiently where a few lines of javascript would be better (faster, smaller size).

Sunday's offering is a 'Web Design Business Kit' at $119 with free shipping, a saving of only 50%.

To my mind, not as attractive as some of the earlier offerings and almost certainly not targeted at the UK, but perhaps of interest to someone?

As to the comments between the advisability of learning JavaScript at all, learning JQuery or learning them in sequence, I can't really comment other than to say that I believe that knowing the basics can only be an advantage in terms of increasing understanding and perhaps maximising marketability?

I really wanted the 2nd day ones, but i forgot them because I'm a ****. did anyone get them?

You're righteth. :) But now I can't decide if I want them or not. Anyone got those books?

Went with the Day 22 deal to get five eBooks for $29. Seemed pretty good, and is likely the only purchase I'm going to make for a while now. :p

theres 2 books i want but i wouldnt read an ebook on my laptop, cant get the physical copies down less than £40 :/
