OK.. this may help some people out...

People are always saying how they'd have a PS3 if the price was right, especially if it's your 2nd/3rd console and just want one to 'augment' your 360/Wii..

There is a glut of PS3's on various forums for sale sections and on classifieds sites..

For example, I got a UK PS3 with Motorstorm/RfoM, 3 BR Films, Extra Controller, BR Remote, HDMI lead for the princely sum of £400... I've seen plenty of consoles only going for £330-£340..

This is my 3rd bundle I've bought, the first two netted a nice earner on fleabay, but I'll probably keep this one for a little while just to complete the PSWii60 collection... and if/when supply dwindles, I am sure it'll be easy to move on fleabay if I need to..

IMO, this thread is asking for trouble as people will inevitably infer OCUK competitors when mentioning a good deal.

Just outta interest, though, how much did you make on your auction sales?

So basically this thread is telling us that used PS3s are available in the usual places, for cheaper than what it costs new?

No **** Sherlock :p

No smartypants ;) this is telling people that there is a glut of 2nd hand PS3's with accessories/games for a much much better price then you can get new, and only a week or 2 old..

This is probably a short term phenomena, as stocks reduce etc, and the market settles, I predict prices will rise.. Anyone wishing to purchase a PS3 at a more reasonable price should consider this route..

Cheer up you miserable sod!!! :)

This is 2nd hand bargains only.... no need to mention any competitors, as they sell close to SSP new items.. I think?

First bundle was UK PS3 + Motorstorm + BR (Click) + Motorstorm + 2nd Controller + HDMI (Bought for £360, sold for £480)
Second Bundle was UK PS3 + Motorstorm + HDMI + unregistered on Sony Network (so eligible for Casino Royale entry), (Bought for £370, sold for £450)

Not being funny but aren't you stating the blindingly obvious? Ah well :)

why dont people just buy other region machines, as they are region free for games anyway no? Anyone know about the blu-ray regions though?

I did a quick search on froogle.co.uk and you can get Hong Kong 60GB versions of the pS3 for £300 brand new.

Why would prices rise as more ps3s make their way into the public? Theres no shortage now and they werent even demanding a premium at launch (in fact many sold at a loss), this isnt going to change in the future.

US and Jap are Region A for BD, UK are Region B. Some movies are region free, many aren't. That's why I've got a US PS3 ;)

Just be carefull... There was a large shipment of PS3's stolen a short while back. They were packaged with RFOM and RR7 (OR the other driving one) and they are being sold all over the place. If you try to register one of these consoles then the police will be informed and you will recieve a visit from the boys in blue. If you cannot prove it was purchased legitimately or provide the details of whom you bought it from then you will be arrested for handling stolen property...

Atm, these consoles are going for is very much below the expected 2nd hand value of a 1-2 week old console.. a lot of the bundles are ~£650 retail going for just £380-400.. thats ~40% depreciation..

It's clear that due to the ebay glut of new consoles, and I believe quite a number of people have bought one to 'try'.. and are now panicking to offload.. this is probably only going to be a short term reaction, and 2nd hand prices will slowly rise again..

I think if it is 'pointing' out the obvious, then I think it's nice to just make people aware that for a limited time due to market conditions, they could buy a PS3 with 40% off the price if they just accept a week old 2nd unit..

Because people are panic off-loading.... normal 2nd value is around the 10-15% if you look at the trends on ebay.. but people have been letting them go for 40% less then they paid a week ago, these are genuine UK machines with receipts (Never buy without..)..

I'll be very surprised if anyone has this happen.

As a matter of fact i know someone who had it happen with the 360. Fortunately he had a reciept from paypal/ebay that the police chased.... ;)

Is it not still handling stolen goods even if you have paid for it?

Not if you bought it unwittingly (and I mean from an ebay seller or other apparently reputable source, rather than from a 'man in a pub').

I still think you'd have to hand it over to the police though.

Personally I would always buy expensive items like this brand new from a proper store then there are no worries of any kind. It costs more but to me it's worth it.

Yep, you'd still have to hand it over to the boys-in-blue. You'd then have to take legal action against the "bloke down the pub" to recoup the losses you've incurred.

So yet again someone is ripping someone off (ie by not actually adding anything to the product and just charging more - instead of just leaving it where it was at original price for someone who actually wants the said console)

Huh - who's getting ripped off?

From what I've seen, the vast majority of people who tried selling PS3s on an auction site ended up getting their fingers burnt. In fact, the OP is the first person I've heard of to have made a profit from getting rid of a PS3 on that site.

It's not like the Wii/360 this time round... if you want a PS3 you've only got to nip to your local High Street store. Anyone that pays over the odds for one at auction deserves to have their money taken from them.

LOL... the PS3 is available everywhere... so anyone who wants one is able to..

People are panic off-loading, and the fact I get them so cheap is becuase no-one wants them... they've usually been advertised for a good few days before I just make them an offer..

Why that would annoy you, I can't fathom... is it unethical to buy anything second hand if the purpose is to make a few quid for yourself??

I bought an imported one for £300.
I did however pay full retail for one for my son two days before for his easter present, just so he could have it on the day, i would have got him an imported one as well, only i'm seperated from his mum, he is only 10 and if anything goes wrong with it they only have to ring sony to get it fixed rather than hunt around like i will have to.
