Bargain RX 480?

Now is time to buy, the new version of the 480 will be more expensive than the current 480 deals have being going for. In short any 480 8G at sub £200 is a bargain and remember OcUK is still giving away the DOOM PC Game with them too.

The cheap crazy 4G deals we had thousands of have sold out as miners from EU came along and took all our stocks, hence why the 4G cards are not so cheap any more as stock is nearly depleted now on those.

I've been noticing that the 8Gb ASUS RX 480 Dual OC has been creeping down in price and is now £180.

I would push the button - I bought the GTX 1070 - after a lot of waiting and watching prices drop. When it was at the lowest price I'd seen, by quite a margin, I bought it and haven't regretted it - plus I haven't seen it at a lower price since anywhere so no regrets plus I've owned it long enough now not to care even if it were to plummet (sorry OC's was from a competitor but I send loads of business your way so you can't grumble). I offset the free game, which I would have bought anyway, and it made the card an incredible bargain.

The above RX 480 is in a similar state - as I watched this card too as I nearly bought this card for my son's PC but he's inherited my R9 280x for now (but I'm sorely tempted). This is a lot of card at £180 and if they're still giving away DOOM that's a £40 game on Steam 'when not on sale' - if you haven't got it already (and wanted to keep it) you could technically say the card only cost £140. Or if you own it/don't want it - you could sell the code for ~£15 and offset it from the price you paid for the card, making it only £165. Either way with the DOOM offer at £180 is the cheapest big brand RX 480 8Gb I've seen from a reputable dealer.

They may drop some more in the future - but if they do I can't see it dropping by so much that you would regret buying/owning it now and actually enjoying the cards performance now...

I've read some of the 480's are quieter cooler than others so I'd defo look in to that before buying.

Hmm interesting as I bought a few from the B grade section for that reason. They generate ~$3 each per day at current ETH prices for example.

Yep and the complete lack of reviews online for the Dual OC kept me from buying it on more than one occasion. If you don't care about noise or overclocking though, I doubt you'll get a better deal than those currently around. The RX 480 will be EOL soon and the RX 580 will only be a clock-boosted 480 at a higher price.

Yeah I read a review of the 4Gb version of this card that wasn't impressed with the cooler.

I'm running an Arctic Cooling Accelero Mono Plus on my 670 that I could swap over I guess?

Maybe the Gigabyte Radeon RX 480 G1 Gaming is a better bet?

Cooler is a bif naff, and is over 2 Slots, just. Ram chips are naked but you cant argue with the price and performance of the card !

as a hint to how good the deal is. ASUS distributor lists the card as

21 in stock
£198.16 Ex. VAT

;) without DOOM

Yeah were causing upset with these deals, but oh well we love causing trouble. :)

RX 480 is our best selling GPU this month, beating every other GPU in sales, AMD are loving it though it does help when a mining customer comes along and says hey I want 1000 units of those. :D

Should see their Prices on the 1070 strix.... haha

Is the Gigabyte built better, likely to be overclocked further and worth the premium?

I had the G1, only 4 GB version. does run a bit hotter then the Asus but VRM and RAM are all cooled under the main heatsink. Unlike asus which leave the RAM chips bear, VRM has a mid plate sink. is also 2 slot design not 2.5 slot! :D

Dual didnt come with a backplate, but my build was inverted but the G1 does

We have an RX480 8G in my wife's computer, It really is a great card. I bought one second hand at this price so to buy new seems like a real bargain to me!

What a fail, their prices should be falling after nearly a year of being out, not going up.

I don't get you guys, every AMD launch, the previous gen cards always go so cheap, they are too cheap and everyone buys. Then new ones release at higher price.

So why do you act surprised!

RX 480 regular pricing was competitive with 1060 which is what it competes with. RX 480 prices now absolutely smashes 1060 to pieces which it is now faster than. :)

So this new card which will still clearly compete with 1060 will of course be 1060 priced but come in a nice new shiny box, have a tiny bit more performance. :)

The G1 is one of the poorest RX 480s available. Uses a smaller cooler than the GTX 1060 G1 Gaming and runs hot and loud.

Their R9 390/390X was terrible too, being the only voltage-locked card on the market as far as I know. Clearly their priorities lie with Nvidia.

AMD dont sub ASUS, Gigabyte, MSI like they do with Sapphire & XFX ;)

Having used both, Dual was louder and VRMs were about 15c higher, also messed up plans for XFire. Strix Version is better made but that got a review for being loud.... when its silent haha

Lessons have been learnt the the G1 of what ever they cool is uses same heatsink length as the 1060 ;)

but as Gibbo said, so will the price increase.

were it be a dual, strix, g1, devils. 480 is a great price at the mo and should last longer then a 1060
