Like everyone here I trawl the shop for 'bargains'. Certainly not a graphics card guru but... why doesn't the likes of the Saphire HD7770 Overclock Edition
£119.99 excite folk or get more attention the review I read say's in xfire gets close to GTX580 or 7950. Silent and for two about £240. I find that tantilizing.Any comments or advice - can't go exotic with my budget - my computer purchases amount to 50% of my gross GDP ~ ;)

a lot of the time you can simply put 2 weaker cards together and outpace a single top-end card for the same price. but that requires a better mobo, power supply, more electricity (bills), more heat, microstutter, scaling and game support issues, etc. while these are non-issues for some, a lot of people still prefer a single card.

you could get a 580, or a 7850 and overclock it really high. 580 wins at stock, 7850 wins overclocked.

Although I prefer single cards set-ups, I'm all in favour of crossfiring / sli'ing two cards, though I think I would it would be better to aim to pair up mid range and above gpu's, rather than low spec ones.

Actually, it will be worth it in the long run if you save for a new cpu and mobo first, especially if you play cpu dependent titles.

Just a note to say i don't get any microstutter in any games apart from a little in battlefield 3. (which is solved by using vsync)

6950 xfire user.

Thanks to all for your input. Some cards I think don't get the attention they deserve - like 'Ugly Ducklings'. The sig is for an old build the one onr the build bench is an X79 build with stopgap xfire Asus 6850 and their quite respectable. I know at present I'm not doing it justice. Again saving up

Tbh, I didn't get much microstutter with my gtx 470s but PorkPieCat does have some valid points.

I would still rather have a single card solution over a SLI or Crossfire setup, so long the single card solution is beefy enough to do what I want from it.

Yep that's fair enough. I just wanted to make the point that its only an issue for some and not all.

Thanks to each and all. I'm on a sharp and expensive(for me)learning curve and I know there is a wealth of experience on hear. I read and take your input on board although sometimes they conflict, they give me every aspect of the solution ... cheers
