I'm going on a day trip to Edinburgh on Thursday, to go and see the Pandas!

But, that'll take a couple of hours so need stuff to keep me occupied for the rest of the time. I vaguely know Edinburgh, but usually been with locals and/or drunk so unsure of the good bars nowadays.

I'll probably be staying in the old town after the zoo and keen to go to Brewdog and I want to go to that big, old fashioned bar with loads of wood. A local will know what I'm on about.

Dinner, wouldn't mind some seafood. Not looking for a Michelin Star (though I'm not adverse to the idea if I'll get a table at this short notice!), but decent grub is a must.

Any must dos? Not fussed about the castle/dungeon/national museum. More into quirky places.

Will I be able to find a shop in Edinburgh for a bottle of bucky for the train home? ;)

So booked a table for one Balmoral. Tried to get a table at Castle terrace but times didn't suit. Looking forward to it.

I trust the cocktail bar in there will appeal to the good lady?

Had a good day out, cheers for the suggestions.

Went to the Zoo, then back into town and I dragged her straight into the Guildford Arms which I loved. Very much my type of pub. After that we had a walk (and got lost) to Brewdog which was cool. Much smaller than the one in Glasgow but the beer was good (as expected). After that we found ourselves in Deacon Brodies Tavern. It was freezing, and a pub was there. Then we went up to The Villager for cocktails before going to the Balmoral for dinner (One Balmoral). Then after dinner upstairs to the cocktail bar in the hotel and then got the last train home.

A good day out!

I'd highly recommend the Guildford Arms & she really liked The Villager but not really my sort of place.
