I have a Logitech 5.1 setup with a whopping great base box in my room, on rereading the instructions it mentions that the basebox needs to be 2 meters away from the pc, however this is impossible in my room, and infact my laptop has been just a few inches away from it over the last few months, just wondering what if any damage could occur? Can it damage the hard drive?

hard drives use some of the strongest magnets available, it would take something pretty major to disrupt a hard drive. it'll be fine. the only think i would worry about is if it's an active subwoofer (ie, has an amp built in) and large transformers and their EM fields can cause problems, disrupting data transmission and whatnot.

i had my pc next to a 12" subwoofer for well over a year with no problems at all:)

Isn't the subwoofer only rated at something like 185 watts, or something? It should be fine no matter how close you have it. The only thing I'd be concerned about is it causing vibrations. What sort of floor do you have it on?

ok thanks, its the logitech sufwoffer 500w output, so i think i should prob move it a little bit away then! :)

The Sub is 188W, the Amp in the subs enclosure is rated at 500W, I had mine right next to my PC, it wont do any damage at all.

The sub has a tiny magnet anyway.

I suppose so, I guess its incase someone buys the Z5500, then puts it nr the PC and the HDD fails but aint releated to the sub but the buyer things it is.
