I dropped off my old AMD k6-2 500/voodoo3/win98 spare pc at a mate's house at the weekend (I'll build him a better XP-based system in 3 or 4 months). This is his 1st pc and although he & I have spent many hours together downloading & surfing etc it was only ever me that was using the pc. Anyway he is a complete novice with pcs/internet etc and I'm wondering if anyone knows of any websites that have [free] 56k-friendly tutorials on getting started with simple computing & the internet. I'm now living 200 miles away and can only help him by phone/email if he gets stuck and I don't think he knows anyone else who is even remotely competent with a pc. I'd hate for him to end up like my mother who despite having been using work & home pcs since the late eighties still struggles with really really basic things.
I did leave him an installed copy of the ECDL sylabus so that will hopefully give him a start (never got round too using it myself so gawd knows if it's actually any good). Plus I suggested he got hold of one of those "[...] For Dummies" books.
