I am getting into playing games online and love using fraps to get the images.

What i would like to do is edit them, add souns and make it semi pro looking. I am using the XP built in one atm, and its not bad, but would love to try some of the other software but have no idea where to start or which to get.

What would you recomend for a complete beginer to this field for 5-10 min movies.

Sony Vegas 6.0 :).

Gives you a decent choice of input/output media formats, various goodies for editing, loads of wipes etc. And lots of good plugins :).

Drop me an email in trust if you have trouble :).

Sony Vegas like benneh said. I've never used it for long but it seems like a good, simple starter editing program. But I do lots of short films so I tend to use Final Cut Pro 5.

I think most gaming videos are made using Vegas as there are a lot of effects and wipes to play with, I personally don't like using lots of effects and I don't like the Vegas interface, so I use Adobe Premiere for this sort of editing as I like the layout of it and find it a lot simpler to use than Vegas. Give both a try and see what you like best! For live action I always use Avid Xpress but this is no good for gaming videos as it doesn't like the Fraps codec.
