Basic loop to get me started

Hi all

I've got a few cheaper parts for a system build and I'm thinking of watercooling the CPU only in this build...

I know I won't get much benefit from it but I'm basically just doing this to get practice in for when I do it properly on future builds, so any help will be appreciated

Parts in this build are:

Intel G4560
MSI B250M gaming board
16GB Team Group DDR4 3200mhz
EVGA 500w PSU

I'm looking to get some cheaper Watercoling bits from MM to go in this.. Could someone possibly give me a rough guide of what to look for please

Radiator
Pump/res combo
Fittings
Tubing

What else is needed other than fluid

240mm radiator probably a 120mm would work for that cpu but 240mm can be used for future build ~not aluminium don't mix metals in your loop
Any d5 variant pump
With a reservoir
Or a separate reservoir
Tubing either 3/8 inner
5/8 outer diameter
Or 1/2 and 3/4
Fittings sizes are dictated by tubing size

Cheers for that bud... The main thing I'm confused by is what size is best for tubing... I'd be doing soft tubing so I'm guessing whatever size tubing I get I must get the same measurements in fittings, correct?

The 2 sizes I said are most commonly used
Probably 3/8id and 5/8 od
Is more common of the 2
Or 10/16mm in metric it will be
Yes tubing size is same as fittings size
And almost anything that screws in is g1/4
Example you have a radiator and a bit of tube
The fitting has one end threaded
That's g1/4 and screws into radiator
Other end of fitting is 3/8 I'd 5/8od
And tubing goes on there
Also need biocide if coolant doesn't have it in it
Or a silver coil in reservoir instead

Thanks for the more detailed explanation, I'm sure I'll get to grips with it pretty sharpish... I'd rather give it a go as I will learn better that way, rather than just read about it..

This may be a little off-field compared to some responses, but how about buying a pre-configured kit (not an AIO/CLC, actual proper parts) where most of it's done for you? I've seen a few on the net for not a lot of money.

Ultimately, what you're looking for is the experience and confidence of putting together a WC setup. You could do this for very little money and less effort with a simple pre-configured setup, tear it down and rebuild it a few times.

You could even ask on the MM if anyone has some parts left sat around they'd be willing to part with, you could probably get a low end block and radiator + tubing and a pump for under £50.

Cheers for the reply, your spot on with what you say about getting my confidence up with putting together a loop... I've posted in the wanted section on the MM so hopefully I'll get a reply... I'm hoping to find something for quite cheap to get me going with watercooling

Like mentioned in an above comment, quality is not key with this build as it's just a project to practice before I spend money on more powerful components and watercool them... What sort of bundle kits are out there for this type of thing or is it best to buy all separately?

You'd need to shop around mate, and to be fair a lot of the 'cheaper' new stuff is going to be Chinese crap you might have to wait months to have delivered. I seem to remember OCUK selling a very basic CPU kit that was around £40-50, but from looking they don't do it anymore. Honestly your best bet is to just appeal to the MM for cheap tat people have sat around, or look second hand on other sites failing that.

You could always just Trust @Mcnumpty2323 I guess, although obviously you won't have the moderation of the MM at your back and it'd be an entirely individual specific encounter.

Ahhh no worries bud thanks for checking though... I've got a thread open in the MM at the moment so fingers crossed others come across it and could possibly help me out with any bits they have to get me started... Thanks for your help on this guys it's really appreciated

On the well known auction site
Swiftech stuff does not always sell
For what it should
Unlike corsair it's not a household name
Last one I got was unopened
And was the premium version
Only paid 50 quid including postage
For it
If doing it outside mm is against the rules
I wouldn't anyway
And got rads, fittings, res, and stuff
But no spare pumps

I had a look on the Swiftech site for a few bits I'll have a look on the Auction site and see what they have on there... You got yourself a bit of a bargain there then mate... Its always good to stick to the rules mate, not long now and you'll have access to MM
