what is the diff in makes between:

1.corsair
2. crucial
3. geil
4. g skill
5. mushkin
6.samsung.
7.ocuk value
8.ocz

if you had to put them in order 1 being the best what order would you go for? why?

Does the make refer to how good the memory performs? does it have anything to do with overclocking?

What is 1t and 2t? what does the T stand for?

Is it true to get best performance from your memory you should run 2 identicial ram sticks? as opposed to 3 or 4?

Whats the diff between ddr and ddr 2? is the diff that noticeable? is pc3200 currently the fastest?

Thanks in advance for your help

What's the difference, well nothing really bar standards from the different companies. Obv. they all have different products which use different IC's, PCB's, etc, etc.

In an order, I'd go for (this is with stability/overclocking in mind),

1. G.Skill
2. Mushkin
3. Corsair
4. OCZ
5. GeiL
6. Crucial
7. ocUK Value
8. Samsung

But between the top 4 there is not much, and people may choose differently. The make's do all have pro's and con's. The GeIL Value and ocUK Value is great memory for the price, if running stock speeds. G.Skill and Mushkin are top overclockers, and Corsair and OCZ are reliable brands.

1T and 2T is the Command Ra(T)e and basically means how long the RAM waits before sending/receiving date AFAIK. So basically 1T is quicker, but 2T offers more stability. :)

If you want the best performance then running 2xDIMMS of like for like memory will put less strain on the memory controller (more so AMD CPU's) and also allow for the 1T command rate as pointed out earlier.

The difference betweeen DDR and DDR2. Well, AMD don't use DDR2 DIMMS atm (but will with the M2 release). Intel do use DDR2. The difference is just faster/higher bandwidth and no PC3200 is not the fastest. I think DDR is PC4800 and I'm not too sure what DDR2 is. Even though AMD can have a max of PC3200, this doesn't mean you can't use PC4800, it just clocks down. But people buy the faster RAM to help when overclocking.

Hope this helps!

wow amd dont use DDR2 thanks for that I thought recently this may have changed but am delighted to find out the current status.....

1. G.Skill
2. Mushkin
3. Corsair
4. OCZ

I was gonna try overclocking when I build a new rig and everyone was telling me to get Geil Ram which I will not do now.....I will stick to the above 4 for over clocking purposes....Which one is best when overclocking out of those 4??

Yeah I don't think Gskill is all that now, when they first appeared they were cheap and great clockers, now they're just like any other brand.

Toss up between Mushkin and OCZ for me as well at the top and maybe even Corsair in 3rd.

Personally I couldn't really care about who makes the modules, the ICs, PCBs and binning are what counts.

Take my Crucial Ballistix for example, they cost me £100 per 1Gb stick, using Micron -5B chips, and perform exactly the same as some 1Gb Buffalo Micron -5B modules I picked up for £40 :D

Lol - it is true but G.Skill have had a lot of problems with batches lately, so I trust the others more and you know Muskin and OCZ bin them better ;).

Like I said, some people may choose differently. ;)

For me, I started out with Corsair (loved it!) then went to crucual ballistix and I couldn't get them working right. So moved to G.Skill and they are great, granted its the early stuff I have.

But everyone has a different choice. :)
