Basic network help required.

I currently have the following setup:

Netgear DG834GT
1 PC
1 Laptop

Both the PC and Laptop connect to the router wireless (local area connection 2).
Their network properties look like this:
IP: 192.168.0.*
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.0.1

I also want the PC and laptop to have a wired connection (for streaming, synchronizing documents etc)
Every time I enable the wired connections (Local area connection) the PC and laptop can see each other but the internet doesn't work. I disable the wired connection and the internet works again??

I have put the wired connection in a different subnet (255.255.254.0) but still no joy.

Any ideas?

You didn't put it in a different subnet, only used a different subnet mask.
How are the machines connected?

Cat5 crossover cable.

What do you think I should do then?

Think I've sorted it.

Have given the wired connection a 192.168.1.* addy
And subnet 255.255.254.0

And to think I used to work in networking :rolleyes:

Subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 is fine, unless there's some specific reason you want a /23.
