Basic question

I'm trying to cut some files from a memory card but for some reason the cut command is greyed out and cmd+x doesn't work either.

Am i doing something really dumb? It's formatted to fat16 if that makes any difference.

Nvm, cmd + drag does it, reading about, it's not a normal function to be able to cut or so i read?

Yep. Pretty stupid, IMO. Dragging stuff around with a mouse is more hassle than keyboard shortcuts.

Perhaps it's for some weird usability reason - i.e. to stop you cutting then never pasting.

There is no working cut function in the Finder, there is a way to enable the option but even then it does not do anything.

The way people were explaining the reason behind it was that if you cut one file and then dont paste it and cut another file, you lose the first file.

Why can't it just do what windows does which is if you dont paste the file after you cut it, then cut another one, it leaves the first file alone.

First thing thats actually annoyed me since getting my mac.

You could always use mv for this purpose!
