Howdy folks,

Potentially taking my first foray into the Raspberry Pi world. I want something which can output 4K 60Hz via HDMI or DP, play 4K video (mostly in MKV format) from an internal or USB disk (so I don't think transcoding will be required, though the flexibility to add this in the future would be a nice-to-have), and run Pi-hole. So, an RP5 with docker?

Grateful for any advice you could provide!

I think they cut back the dedicated video decoding hardware for the Pi 5, so anything that isn't HEVC you may run into frame drops at 4k depending on the codec.

I noticed that YouTube started pushing AV1 and VP9 exclusively for the higher resolutions which is forcing me to consider alternatives for my Pi 4, as it struggles even at 1080p60.

If video playback is a big part of your usage and you don't want to transcode, I would recommend looking elsewhere.

Thank you, that's really useful information - exactly the kind of thing I needed to know :-)
