....quick enough for running photoshop and aperture at a decent speed?

Im trying to decide whether to get the 2.0Ghz or if the 2.4Ghz would be worth the extra ££, theres not a massive difference in price, but it all makes a difference.

I can't comment on the lower spec one, but running those aps on the basic spec 24" iMac it runs lovely :)

If you can afford it, you might as well go for the 2.4. Will be better in the long run :p

I went for the 2.4 over the 2.0 as i thought the extra speed would help with apps such as photoshop, but i recommend that when you get it you buy 4gb of ram to as this will improve performance a great deal! and you will have an awesome machine for design work!

i keep thinking about going for the 2.4 over the 2.0, then i think £150 is a big difference to me.

with regard to ram upgrades, can you upgrade the ram easily at any time? does the mac just recognise it and use it like a pc would? then i could leave the ram upgrade for a month or so.

Yes, it involves opening the small RAM door at the bottom of the iMac (access via a single screw)

Boot up, and Viola! It'll see it immediately providing it's seated correctly :)

My 2.0GHz C2D MacBook runs PS CS3 OK. It could do with more than 1GB of memory but it runs just fine, so your iMac will cut the mustard as well. Just get some more RAM in there with the money you saved on getting a faster CPU.

you can also run a quick test, put the first iirc disc in the imac, hold down d at the chime and run the hardware test :)
