I have looked for the cheapest parts i could find (although they are good). The motherboard has on-board graphics so it will not need a graphics card (thus saving money), i know that on-board graphics are not good for gaming but for just uni work and surfing the web it should be fine.
The total price includes the 1GB R.A.M not the 512mb. I chose AMD and socket 939 because i like them and i think 939 is cheape than AM2 im not sure tho. This is a budget build if you want better perfomance it will probably cost you more money.
hth :D

Heh thats acutally pretty amazing comp_builder. £220 for a complete system with S939 and 1gb of ram.

Prices really are dropping on PC hardware :) Enjoy it while it lasts! Once we have confirmed slipping Oil reserves prices will take off again...

yer ill be getting xp. Was kind if thing i was think excent i was thinking going AM2 since 939 is dead now

That is the cheapest AM2 rig i could find, i had to include a graphics card as the motherboard dosnt have on-board graphics (i am not really sure wether the graphics card is compatible) I personally feel if all it is needed for is uni work and surfing the web then you should go with socket 939 as going with socket AM2 has no performance increase whatsoever and why future-proof a computer that when he finishes uni and maybe wants to upgrade for personal use he will (or at least i would) take everything out and build a new one. :D
