Basic SSD & SATA Software Installation Question

I'm about to buy a new PC and move into the world of SSD. Is it possible to install the OS on the SSD, and run my software (mostly Photoshop, word processing, music editing and some 3D rendering) from the slave SATA/IDE drives?

If so, is this recommended, or is it worth the extra cost of buying an SSD drive large enough for my software?

How about installing some software (the most resource-hungry) on the SSD, and some on a SATA/IDE drive?

Cheers. :)

Way I'd do it is OS and programs on a small 120/250GB SSD. Then Cache (and any other data/folders associated with the programs that can be placed on another drive) for Photoshop/rendering programs you put on another drive. If you can afford a second SSD, great. Or if one 500GB SSD will do everything, then great.

Great, thanks. I'm not sure why I asked the question actually, as whatever SSD I use should be big enough for all my software. A bit of a dumb moment. But reminding me to use the separate drive for cache is a good one.
