Hi Folks,

I need some tips for playing DOW2. I never really played the first one so am not really sure what to do. I tried reading the manual but didn't get much out of it.

Basically I am just trying to work out the best way of starting off a skirmish (I can't play the campaign at the mo as it keeps crashing!)

I find I get at least half of the recresition points and energy points on the map including building generators but for some reason I am always miles behind my opponent (normal computer). I usually have my commander, my scout squad, maybe a tactical squad and a heavy bolter squad and am on my way to building a deardnought but it leaves me with difficulty defending my points on the map and my troops are constantly moving between them the fight off the enemy.

However, by this time the enemy might have loads of squads, a few walkers and maybe a tank etc so I really start to struggle. I'm not sure if it is because I am playing Space marines and they are expensive to generate or I am doing something wrong at the start and am falling behind.

Any tips appreciated.

I think you're approaching it wrong on a pretty fundamental level, sounds like you're getting a couple of points then trying to lock them down. You should just be constantly out to cap your next point, strangling their power supply is always your best bet to gain an advantage, if you don't think you can hold the power nodes closest to them just keep the generators destroyed.

If DoW2 its anything is very dynamic, your troops shouldn't be stood in any one location ever, the AI is a bit annoying however as it seems to assign its hero + a random unit to doing nothing but walking through the fog of war just to cap anything you're furthest away from, its very algorithmic in the way it does that which is pretty annoying.

When I play multiplayer, the first thing I tend to build a tactical squad or HBS depending on the map. A HBS is good to cover your flanks while your main force can go off and do something else, so if you can find a flank that needs covering, then build a HBS. If you think you can do without, then go for a tactical squad. Although a HBS is also great for positioning near the front lines as it allows you to fall back when you need to, and WHAM, the enemy is suppressed and you can hit them with all you got. Works a treat for me.

Next I will build an assault marine squad. These guys are great for destroying ranged units, just get your ranged troops engaged then jump your assault marine squad in. When you can, upgrade your tactical squad with a rocket launcher and assault marines with melta bombs.

From there it is up to you what to do, just make sure all your existing troops have been upgraded with sargents and weaponry. You definitely want your scouts to have grenades too to deal with large amounts of infantry. When you have enough resources, go for a predator tank just for some extra firepower.

I rarely build the dreadnought as I'm not very good with it.

As said above, you need to be moving all the time. The longer your troops sit there doing nothing, the stronger the enemy is getting and the more time they have to plan something.
