A family member is looking for a laptop for basic use and willing to spend roughly £500.

I know he likely won't get anything decent for that price. He hasn't specified a size, just that it's for basic use and wanted the latest windows on it.

Can anyone advise of a laptop that would fit the criteria?

Does it need to be brand new? Dell outlet is good for refurbished ‘like new’ models just. Failing that have a look at Lenovo.
I can check, I've just been looking at the dell refurbished items actually. My first port of call was Lenovo also. I'm trying to find one with a half decent spec and no soldered RAM. He's stated 15.6" would be best.

I managed to get an ASUS Zenbook A14 UX3407QA 14" Laptop, Copilot+ PC – Snapdragon X, 16GB, 512 GB ssd, OLED for £500 when it was on offer over black friday/christmas. Gone back up to full price at the moment but with snapdragon x2 out soon it might come down again.

Can't really complain about it really for office stuff etc. Not to mention it is really light weight... under 1kg

Go Dell, Lenovo or Dell Outlet for refurb.

I can tell you that if you watch prices on laptops at major retailers, then you will sometimes find major reductions when they are clearing out models, which would just about bring them into your budget.

Hp 250 g10 should fit that bill, most of the spec of the pro books but with a slightly more plasticy shell but are usually very reliable.

Morgan Computers do a lot of surplus/refurb stuff. A quick look shows they currently have lappies from £70 to £700.

Thanks folks and apologies for the delay!
Certainly plenty options available for him so I'll whitle it down from there.

On a plus note @Vestas That is a handy recomendation as a new company locally has asked me to source some new machines for them doing basic work also.

I haven't used them for a while but they were fine last time. The only thing of note is the Grade A/B refurb lappies battery warranty. They're all brand names anyway so replacement batteries are £50 or so if it looks a bit iffy.

No that's fine, it would likely be the desktops they are after.
