The brief - no expense spared (within reason), high quality gaming PC.

Obviously I could spend a couple of hundred more and get an SSD but I will wait it out for now because the Vertex 3s are around the corner. I still think they're too expensive as well.

Looking for any input where you think improvement could be made. I think these parts are the very best in terms of price/performance ratios, pretty much. But there are some very knowledgable people on here :) I've treated myself to a poncy keyboard and mouse becuase this system with cheapo peripherals doesn't make any sense.

Also is it really necessary to put "funky" in the title of FT03? :p

Any recommendations on fan/cooling upgrades in particular would be appreciated! There must be a couple of peeps on here with a FT03

Want it to be as quiet as possible. Also I know I've got a P67 mobo and a non-unlocked CPU but I am not interested in overclocking. I am pretty sure that stock speeds are more than enough for my needs!

you will need the 'k' version of that cpu to overclock. Seeing as they run at 4.5ghz all day long I presume you would want that? It's here and £30 more, but totally worth it to you as a gamer.

the system will go for longer if you overclocked. Stock speeds are good your right. It's up to you. You could always go for a mid end air cooler seeing as your not overclocking?

is it worth it though? I assumed that the bottleneck on most FPS like Crysis 2, BC2, Metro 2033 would be the graphics card.

£30 for a chip you can run at 4.5ghz over stock, at any time you want in the future is a bargain.

read this page for more info;) The kit your buying is ready for it............DO IT.................lol:D

haha I guess this sort of advice is to be expected on a site called "overclockers"

Ridiculous performance for the money it seems. I'm going to look at some overclocking threads on the CPU forum and see how fool proof it is. I hate messing with voltages etc. Reminds me of electronics class at school bad times! :D

You spent quite a bit on the case, but guess if you want that case it can work, also you have no dvd drive ;p (you might already have one, but thought I@d make you aware of it xD)

And yeah, get the K version of the chip

Overclocking makes too much sense not to do it! It makes computing cheaper in the long run, I seem to be surviving on upgrades every 4 years! (and could have lasted longer this time to be honest).
Nice case but quite cramped by the look of it. Considered the Raven 2?

to call it overclocking is a bit of a pi55 take really comparing to anything before it. set multiplier, vcore tweak if needed bonjour 4.5ghz:D

I'd always advise checking it out for yourself, the forum is full of people running that speed 24/7. I myself got an i7 2600k and run 4.9ghz 24/7 everyday:eek::D
