Hey guys,

Shot my first basketball game in about 6 months, and the first time ive shot here with my 85, and at all since march last year! only shot 2 games since then as well at different venues, so i'm VERY rusty. Here's 4 to give you a taster :)

Played basketball myself today after not much sleep, so i wanted to get these uploaded asap so i could get myself to bed, so not much effort has gone into the PP

Yes noisey but understandbly so due to ISO1600. Can you imagine an A70 at ISO1600? :D Fixable noise aside the shots look great. Good colours, contrast, super sharp and great depth of field. I think the first is my fave for the simplicity of it. One on one. Mano a mano. The depth of field is spot on.

I see Dip Donaldson hasn't layed off the pies (the black guy in the last shot playing for the crusaders).

I used to go watch Coventry play regularly, even made it in to their under 13's - but then re-found the joys of karate.

lol adam :p

Biggest problem i had was the 20D being too damn slow. Basketball is too fast a sport to shoot PROPERLY with anything but professional level bodies imo. Unless i prefocus, the 20D just doesn't do it fast enough :| the 85mm is possibly the fastest AF lens canon make, and it certainly flies on the 1DmkII, but the 20D just doesn't cut it :( Also things like servo sensitivity custom functions to stop the camera jumping focus if someone cuts infront of the subject are very important.

I also shot jpg to cut down processing as i knew it'd be a long slog (and i only had a 1gb card with me so i didnt wanna chance running out) so that didnt help on the noise front.

pfft, a bad workman and all that

Nah, I know what you mean - my 300D was shockingly bad at a recent skatepark jam I attended - manual focus all the way and thus plenty of OOF shots.

These look pretty spangly to me though :)

nice shots
really like the 1st two shots
wouldn't mind trying some of these
only decent gym shots I have were with a prime
50mm at the time, managed to get a 2.8 105mm now though
will have to try it again :)
