i have 100+ *.jpg files which i need to rename. at the moment they are called image0001.jpg, image0002.jpg etc etc and i need to rename them to blah001.jpg, blah002.jpg etc.

is there a way i can do this without have do do all of them individually?

iv found plenty of software that can do that. However i cant find one thats worth while

I need one that will rename mp3's from things such as:

03_muse_-_starlight_(blah)_ etc etc

into

Muse - Starlight

But they dont seem to be able to do it like that.. they dont put spaces in the correct places or they rename is just track1 etc etc

Massive pain! my fingers hurt from renaming so many...

Anybody know oof one let me know.

as for above poster. to do simple renames search downloads.com with file renamer. theres a lot around. free.

Select all of the files in explorer (Ctrl-A) and then right click on the #1 file and rename it. The rest will be named numerically.

Is this what you mean?

01_artist_-_first song_(blah)_.mp3
02_artist_-_second song_(blah)_.mp3
03_artist_-_third song_(blah)_.mp3

renamed to

artist - first song.mp3
artist - second song.mp3
artist - third song.mp3

If so, dopus can do this.

Yeah exactly what i mean. Say for example you have a folder with an album inside. the songs are labeled like below 1-12 and each ahs own name etc etc but in a terrible looking format.

01_artist_-_first song_(blah)_.mp3
02_artist_-_second song_(blah)_.mp3
03_artist_-_third song_(blah)_.mp3

Ill have a go of dopus when i get home. after installing vista if it works with vista :D Like to keep all my files neatly named and organised but takes so much time. ! thnx for software tip.

The software is called Directory Opus and it's not just a file renamer it's a full blown file explorer replacment, although the renamer tool within it is very powerful. With reg exp you can setup almost any pattern you like. It might be a little over the top and more then you would want to pay if you only want to rename a few files. If you want to try it there is a trial version you can download.

If you need to ask any more questions regarding renaming your files see this thread of the dopus forum. http://tinyurl.com/33mxb9

Paul there are planty of tools that allow you to batch rename, it's whether you can rename in this certain way that's the issue.

For MP3s I'd recommend www.mp3tag.com
