batch resize of images

are there any good free programs that can batch resize a folder of images, from high res photos to smaller images optomized for websites etc

I know this sounds unlikely but I use the microsoft picture manager if I ever want to resize or quickly crop and image or a load of images and it's actually quite good.

I know it isn't free but there is a chance you'll have it installed anyways. I'm sure some else knows a free one if you don't.

ifranview for gui goodness or imagemagick for 'mogrify -size 400 *.jpg' command line action goodness.

Google Picasa will do the job.

Which OS are you using?

If Windows XP (and maybe vista) there is a Windows PowerToy that does exactly what you are looking for.

Search microsoft for Image Resizer.. Then you can just right click on a selection of images and click on resize.
