When I moved in 3 years ago. The vents which have ducting all the way into the attic then out a vented tile on the roof had been taped up. I suppose this was to prevent heat from leaking out. I now understand why has the en suite and bathroom are always cold even with the heating on.

I removed the tape and the vents. There was no fan.

I need a decent ceiling mounted extractor fan with an auto shutter function. So it basically turns on with the light or seperate cord. Then closes off so no heat can escape after it's timer goes off.

Can anyone recommend a good ceiling extraction fan which these features?

I suppose I could always just block the vents and use the ones in the windows manually if it's always going to be an issue of losing heat.

Most people google...https://www.i-sells.co.uk/airflow-i...1ZMm1Jbij3EXewG2WRKNMTEup8y-E7ARoCm8MQAvD_BwE

Or an inline extractor fan. Or an inline one way valve. A fan with a humidistat. A fan with a timer.

However, I doubt the fact there was no extractor fan and it was taped up is why it was always cold "even with the heating on". That makes no sense...

It was fine before I removed the tape and vent.

There was no fan before.

As soon as I removed the tape and vent as the vent was old and dirty there has been a massive leak of heat.

Well that's just a hole in the wall...so expected then?

Do one of the above and the problem will be solved.

I have done some research by googling however the one you linked isn't a manufacturer I've seen as recommended before.

I'd rather someone who is in the sector provide a more reliable suggestion. I've been told manfoss is good for instance by one person. So I am awaiting for some more suggestions before pulling the trigger

Sorry to hijack the thread, but saves another thread considering it's about extractor fans.

The extractor fan in my new build flat started to make strange noises before stopping working completely. The developer came around to sort the issue and installed a different brand extractor fan because the previous brand had suffered issues in other flats. The developer is very shady (I wish I had known this at the time) and kept referring to having the trickle vents open when using the fan otherwise the motor will burn out because there's no air to replace the air which is being extracted, almost blaming the fault on me despite the fact I read all this in the welcome pack when I moved in and also do have the trickle vents open at all times.

Anyway, the new extractor fan suffered the same fate as the previous one, making loud noises as if it's struggling before ceasing to function. Interestingly, if I leave the fan off for a few weeks (opening the window to let moisture out when showing) it will start to work again.

What else can the issue be considering it works and then stops? I have no idea about these things, could it be the issue is with the ducting? Maybe it's at an angle that's allowing moisture back towards the unit?

just seen they have put new models up
little more expensive but extra CFM for same noise level

yeah i saw them last night.

it's £100 vs £160 as I need 2. I don't think it's worth the additional 60% tbh.

Give it 5+ years and when this burns out I'll likely replace with the newer models which will no doubt be a lot cheaper by then.
