Hi folks,

I am looking to get my "shower bath" ordered. Has anybody got any personal/firm recommendations on baths?

I am compromising by having a shower bath - but wanted something "as least worst as possible" when it comes to screens, curtains etc.

Also the baths themselves, seem to range from a fiver to $lol.

Currently considering:

I went with Abacus for my bathroom. Their stuff is class and generally well thought out designs as well as being easy to fit.

I got everything from Rubber Duck the only thing I didn’t get that was abacus was the taps, went for hansgrohe as they looked great. Toilet is a vitra.

The B&Q one is almost certainly the "Evolve" model manufactured int he UK by Trojan Baths, good quality manufacturer so nothing wrong there if your after a basic bath. They manufacturer for the majority of the internet boys (mine included) so pretty standard.

Those three you've posted are all rather different and depend on the type of bathroom you're doing.

Regarding glass, it just depends on what you want, most are all pretty standard 6mm screens, just look at the shape, colour and the pivot options.

Better bathrooms are awful avoid.

Id go with drench for most sanitary ware (they stock more premium branded stuff eg 10mm screens)

I went with below previous for built in cabinets also and they were good

Are they really that bad?

They have the Grohe Bau toilet I need for 130 and they have the bath for 500. Yes it's 40 quid for postage which is annoying, but victorian plumbing want quite a bit more.

I can't find the freestanding shower bath I've been told we need anywhere else :(

We took a glass shower screen down and replaced it with a curtain. Can be regularly laundered and fabric patterns varied to make quite a splash. Oops!

ours, I linked before, is a curved/P unit with a foldable curved screen
.. like below but bath taps are half way along other wall, so you can get it out of the way if you are using bath, and makes cleaning easier.
e: no shower curtain needed

Neither of us are fans of the glass tbh - mainly because it locks off half of the bath semi-permanently (annoying if you are bathing a little one!).

Also, curtains go longer than the glass.

I've asked for wife intervention on bath choices and shes said she'll be ok with the J bath regular - phew. I was going to go freestanding j bath and then had palpitations at getting the waste to seal perfectly with no access etc.

This isn't the forever bathroom so I think an eye on cost is reasonable!

No customer service people with the company (better bathrooms) I waited about 3 months for a unit which was shown as "in stock" before cancelling the order. Total shower of **** I wouldn't order again.

Think I've decided on:

Towel Rad - (I may get a plinth heater in there as well, TBC) - it is a north facing room external room so VERY cold.

Bath:

Just debating shower - I can spend ~300 on a dual head thermostatic mixer and chase the pipes, or spend ~700 on a dual head where you just drop from the ceiling (https://www.screwfix.com/p/mira-act...hrome-thermostatic-digital-mixer-shower/930kj). The install effort saving is pretty monumental --- but how hard is bending a 90 in a copper pipe and chasing the wall?

Just wanna confirm that glass is ass, especially with kids indeed. Currently trying to motivate myself to swap our rubbish our for a standard curtain.

We took ours out, put it in the garage wrapped in a sheet then forcefully dropped it onto a house brick on the garage floor. Took a few goes to fracture the laminated glass. Then in carrier bags to the tip.

It was a nightmare to clean with limescale, suds etc.wiping with white vinegar regularly. Curtains just go into the washing machine and dry quickly when rehung.

Standing behind a translucent shower curtain is not as nice a ambiance, save water ?, need a more dedicated ceiling spot too
occasional lubrication of the screen pivot, did ours for first time yesterday/gt86 , plus bi-monthly descale; plastic seal at base loose flexibility so change every 4-5yrs;
... slight drip from thermostatic mixer so need to identify/get-in a spare cartridge

Are you going to use the dual fuel feature? It's not very common really. If you do though you can get much better elements now with Bluetooth / Wifi apps to control it rather than a simple on off fused spur.

J Bath is again supplied by Trojan in the UK so decent quality, for a basic bath anyway.
