Bathroom storage

Hi guys,

I got my first viewing of my new build today and concentrated on the bathroom as I'm currently buying bits for the house.

The big problem is lack of storage options. I've included a photo of the bathroom below. In hindsight I would have taken a wider photo but I was actually taking it for the tiles. To the right is the bath which takes up the full wall.

The only other space is between the bath and the door (approx 22-25cm).

The space between the sink and toilet is 27-28cm and is up to 62cm high.

Ideas
- Add a shelf to the left of the sink for rolled up towels. I'd have to be careful as drilling into the tile would be a nightmere. Other options?
- Add a small four story rack of baskets between the sink and toilet for shaving products, hair products, tooth brush, etc.
- Buy a shallow cupboard for above the toilet. That space is currently for a mirror, which I still need so would probably go to the left of the cupboard. Alternatively it could be a full wall cupboard wit mirrored front but I tend to think they come out too far.
- On another point, where the hell does toilet roll go?
 
I'd get a suction toilet roll holder for under the sink i think unless you do end up with a short storage unit for that space.

Any chances of say a full height pick from being stood in the bath to the right to get a better feel of the room.
 
Get some of these, couple at the tap end of the shower, couple on the left of your sink, maybe one under.

Plenty of space for a wall cupboard with mirrored doors in front of the sink and over the toilet.

Why store towels in the bathroom? Do you not have an airing cupboard?

Good idea! It's either that or put it on top of the basin.

Afraid not. I was a bit rushed. I can go back and measure everything up in a few weeks though. For now, here's a plan. The height is actually out by a few cm (1.96m total) as it's measuring from the middle of the wall.

Yeah, thinking of that for the shower to hold shampoo and the likes.

Might be the only option for hair, shaving, etc products. Might look weird if I only put a cupboard across half and a full cupboard mirror across there will add more light.

No airing cupboard as it's a combi boiler but there is an over-stairs cupboard. I think I'll probably get a towel hanger over the back of the door for showering and then the hand towel will go on the towel radiator.
 
You could always replace the bath panel and use that for storage like this. Also a panel that doesn't protruded as much would make more space between the bath and toilet.
 
Storage is for girls who could fill a Tardis up with coconut scented douche oil,
pitting the storage provision of IKEA against the output of Body Shop is not going to end well for you.
 
I added a white wire shelf to the toilet room of my master ensuite bathroom. Surprised how quick and simple it was, and cheap (at least here in the us, was $15 to install 2 4ft shelves.

Just make sure you use plaster screws and plugs.
 
Ignore - didn't realise 16-bit had already suggested the bath panel. Great idea though and I'm tempted to do the same with my small bathroom.

I'd probably be on the search for a large double mirrored cabinet that would fit over the basin and cistern. Might cost a bit then the other ideas but will make the room look nicer without your clutter everywhere and mirrors are great in a room without a window!

I'd also go for the bath panel idea as you could keep all the cleaning junk in there!
 
Yep double mirrored cabinent sounds right to me. I recently fitted one over the toilet in the ensuite and it looks fine although you have to be careful to put the toilet lid down to avoid any disasters if you drop something!

Drilling tiles is no harder than drilling anything else as long as you use the correct tile drill bit, everywhere sells them, B&Q, Screwfix etc.
 
Cheers for the suggestions so far guys! I want to try and save the tiles so a wide mirrored cupboard with under bath storage and a sucker basket for shower gel and shampoo sounds the cleanest way to store items. Now it's just finding a big enough cupboard that isn't too deep. Also need to make sure there's enough headroom between the toilet and the bottom of the cupboard.

There's going to be quite a bright LED light in the roof and then a LED downlight above the shower head so the room should hopefully be bright enough.
 
Don't discount fixings on account of the tiles - if you're willing to re-drill the mounting holes in a cabinet then you can line them up to go straight through the grouting (note - ensure you have a decent fixing since you lose the benefit of a large tile area with adhesive spreading the load).
 
For max storage in that space I'd go for a storage bath panel, a cupboard under the sink, a shallow mirrored cabinet above the sink and a rack-style shelf above the door for towels.

I got a large stainless, mirror fronted wall cabinet from Bathstore about 7 years ago. It's only 10cm deep and being stainless, the inside acts as a mirror so you can still see yourself when the door is open - handy sometimes. It's also shallow enough to be set into a stud wall if you want to.
