Batman AA - Does it get Better?

Right so I'm at the start of arkham asylum, harley quin just "dropped a elevator on me".

So far, I don't think the game is worthy of all the praise it gets, why are there gargoyles all over the place...seems weird.

Does it get better, do you leave the asylum as I'm finding it quite dull.
