Batman: AA slowpoke

Until then, I'm not spending my cash on this. Fanboys can cause a lot of damage and can be a real pain.

At 75% off you refuse to spend a couple on pound on a game that is universally praised UNTIL you read a review saying its bad.

Bizarre.

That's not what he said - he's waiting for a review by someone who has no strong feelings one way or the other about Batman, the fictional character, so that he knows the game review won't be coloured by their batman-mania.

To echo some of the replies in this thread already, I am not a huge Batman fan. Yes the films can be quite fun and the character can be interesting. However, if the protagonist of AA was a 6'7 stick of celery, it would still be a great game. I have been playing it since the deal last week and love it.

Some of the characters are just ridiculous, but that somehow adds a lot of depth and charm to the game. It is quite dark in places too, and the voice acting is great.

The only snag I have is the combat. At the moment, any lengthy combos I do I seem to do completely by accident. The game does not make it very clear whether you should be button-mashing, timing hits, using hits in the correct order etc. I am still having fun [the finishing move animations look awesome!] but would be nice if I had a bit more to go on.

All that said, whether or not you are a fan of Batman, I think you can enjoy this game. :)

I also bought it when it was on the £3.75 special, like yourself I wasn't sure so made a post on here about if it was worth it. I got a shed load of replies all saying it was so away I went and clicked the go button.

Friday evening a mate came over so I decided to fire it up and take a look. So far I am impressed it works flawlessly at my res of 5760x1080 and is nice and smooth at fairly decent setting with just an oc'd 5850. The game itself was also pretty good, we must have played a couple of hours and I for one was really getting into the storyline. "Will I manage to infiltrate the asylum and b**** slap the joker"... who knows?

As Sirius said above, using the 360 pad I also have no idea what I should be doing to be honest, most of the time im bashing the hell out of buttons and although unplanned it seems to have the desired effect.

You will find the button mashing doesn't work well for the later levels where timing and noticing the surroundings is a key part of the gameplay.

Brilliant game, you can tell they concentrated on making the game a game instead of just a visual ride through.

I decided to have a proper play around with the combat after my post this morning. After a bit of messing about [and some deaths!] I think I have the hang of the combat. It served me well at one point when I had to fight a hoarde of henchmen! :p

I found I could button mash for the first 3 hits on a target. After that, I click just once which either produces a critical or a leap across the area to smack another bad guy. Using your cape stun also counts as a combo, and is handy if there are a few guys next to each other.

Keep an eye on the blue symbol above a henchman's head. If you see that, click the Counter button. Again, this counts as part of a combo.

I am not perfect at this just yet, but I seem to get decent combos in now, and get to use some special abilities such as the unblockable takedown and throws! :D

The combat seems a bit random at first but after about 1/3rd of the game you pickup on it and when you do pull a seamless combo off through the whole fight its quite a sense of achievement and impressive to watch.

I'm not a big fan of batman tho found the original movies somewhat interesting, definitely not into comic book stuff, but like the game a lot, sure its a bit linear (tho it does quite well to hide that at first) the attention to detail, quality of the visuals, voice acting and story pacing is amongst the best in a game yet.

I loved the "set pieces" where you can't move on from the room until you've taken down a set number of enemy, the way you can swoop from the ceiling, hide in the shadows, use combos to tie up enemy, etc. etc. and the way they react as the numbers go down was really well done.

Only negatives for me was that while they generally did an exceptional job porting it from the console for PC controls, there was 1-2 areas, mostly boss fights, where it was a bit fiddly and needed 3 hands to use mouse + all the buttons needed.

Love Batman AA if arkham city is on a similar level it will be a buy for me.

For the guy unsure because of fanboi over zealotry... I am not into batman at all, have never read a comic never will.

I only picked this up a few months ago because so many have said good things about it. I almost didn't get it as I don't think I have played a good super hero game yet.

It's not the biggest game ever but its the production quality that is a level above a lot of other games, excellent voice acting and the sandman bits were great (I never knew there was a sandman in the batman universe b4 this game)

I've never been a fan of batman but I bought it at £3.75.

Not installed it yet though. I always liked X Men, other comic stuff was boring. X Men had loads of super powers and a brilliant story line.

Just started playing it again today as I finished Dead Space 2 and never got this much of a chance.

Unfortunately it had lost my saved game so I am starting again, I didn't get that far last time so its not much of an issue, getting more of the trophies and riddles this time around and making use of the upgrades.

It looks lovely must say and is very fluent quite enjoying it so far.

Sandman bits? Are you talking about The Scarecrow? The bits where Batman starts halucanating and having freaky flashbacks? He was the bad guy in the movie Batman Begins.

The first Scarecrow bit was cool as it was completely different. Got boring the second time after the flashback. Not far enough in the game to know if it happens again. I hope not.
