Batman AA Steam Edition Problem

So naturally, I picked this up during the Steam sale. I downloaded it this morning, verified game cache, defragged files etc.

So I launched it, and I get an "Performing set-up for first time. Installing DirectX" message. Fine. After a few seconds, I get the game launcher itself on-screen where I can choose from Play, Settings, View Readme File, and Exit. After clicking on Play, I get the little blue circle thingy, as if something is happening, but then after a few seconds, nothing. Absolutely nothing happens.

Every time I try, I get the above paragraph repeating itself. I must be doing something wrong... What am I missing?

A wild and uneducated guess would be physx drivers?

I had problems running a game a while back and had to install them, I didn't think I needed them because I had switched from nvidia to AMD, but that was not the case.

Do you have the Windows Live Game client installed? i got Flatout off steam and that wouldnt start without the GfWL thingy and I'm sure Batman AA uses it.

It certainly does, but I would have thought it would force it on you during the install?

So would I but I got flatout ultimate carnage which didnt come with the client and wouldnt run without it .

Okay, just checked and it definitely uses GFWL, but it doesn't ask me about it during the install process?!

Is it an ID I need (in which case does a normal MSN/Windows Live ID suffice?) or do I need to actuall DL something from Microsoft?

Thanks for all the speedy replies by the way - much appreciated :)

Just get the latest GFWL client.

Then sign up here does not take long at all.

If you have any other issues with GFWL just look here.

This happened to me with Lara Croft.

I solved it by removing it (deleteing the game cache) and then redownloading it.

A pain, but works flawlessly now!

Thanks for the feedback everyone!

As it turns out, I have the GFWL client installed, and I have a Windows Live ID. The problem is that I'm just not being asked for this info during the installation process!

So yeah, I might try deleting the local game content and re-downloading it. Cheers everyone, will report back!

gfwl is absolute ****, i had plenty of problems trying to play gta4 with that. kept telling me it needs to update before it can log me in. so it would update then say it needs to restart, only for it to repeat the same crap when the game restarted.
did it several times, in the end i had to manually download and install the update.
same happened to a friend aswell.

I'm not disagreeing, but everyone has their own experiences and I've still yet to have an issue with GFWL, it's been a better overall experience for me than steam. So has the EA downloader/manager for that matter.

ea download manager ....does it offer anything other than click to download ?
i've only used it once so not clued up on it.

gfwl doesn't support the majority of games anyway so it becomes more of a hinderance than anything. if it was optional or worked on all games then fair enough but it doesn't.
even creating a gfwl can be a pain and they want money now if you want to change your name ? lol

Had the same issue with Dirt2, when trying to load the game it seemed to be doing something then stop and nothing.

I uninstalled the GFWL it put in and downloaded the installer and was working fine. Just be aware the newer GFWL downloads runs crap in the background even when not using it, I just put them to manual in services so they load only when needed. I think it was GFWL sign in assistant or some other.

I wish GFWL would go away already, gets in the way so much.

What problems have you had with steam exactly.

Just the regular ones that everybody has encountered over the years. I don't want to get into any sort of debate with someone that thinks steam is perfect.

GFWL and the EADM, I install the games, I start them, I play them.

Of course these are nothing but personal opinions I've formed around personal experiences.

Okay, it's sorted. The game started after hitting "Play" from the game launcher after downloading/installing for the second time. I've no idea why it worked now, and not the first time. It's after this point, so actually "in" the game, where it asks for the GFWL ID etc.

Anyway, going to play it now. Thanks for your help gents :)
