Batman: Arkham Asylum

OK now the game is working I have signed in with my Live profile and it says downloading an update and has done for about 10 mins. Is this normal?? Why they dont have a progress bar so you know it has not crashed it beyond me.

I can't get the update to install. Progress bar jumps to 98% or so as soon as I start the download, then it sits doing nothing for 5 mins or so before saying download failed. Which is nice. Tried 3 or 4 times now.

I am getting ****** off with these morons who "go off on one" when any type of DRM is used. Theyre the ones who have caused it most likely.

Most legitimate game buying public dont care about DRM (Well, it has never bothered me). As long as I never have to telephone someone to activate something, I dont give a ****.

Get a life you ******* morons and stop downloading stuff just because your tramps and cant afford £30 for a game < Is for all pirates.

I work, I earn money, I like playing games so I buy them with my disposeable income. Sure, ive bought some stinkers in my time but that is my choosing, nobody forcing me.

If you find games are too expensive, get a better job or fund it by other means.
WTF....

Is this meant to be aimed at me

My main gripe with this game is that I have no idea how far ago the last savepoint was unless I was paying super close attention, so when I want to quit it's always a gamble.

Aye I agree with that, it's bloody annoying. I kept Batman running on my PC and went to my 360 and had a go on Fable 2 and it knocked me out of Batman as I'd logged onto my live account on the XBox. When I loaded up Batman again I had to redo a fair bit. Give me a save game option ffs, a PC is not a console :D

Saying that I get a save game option , whenever I want for the most part, not autosave in Fable 2 on my 360. The world is all back to front :p

No, it was not.

My appologies if it seemed that way or if the post offended you.

I was guessing youve heard/read from someone else complaining about it.

It is more aimed at them, the ones who go nuts anytime a game is released with any kind of DRM when for 99.9% of us, the DRM causes no problems at all.

Even more so when they say "Gosh, you need to activate with Internet" - Surely most PC gamers have an "Allways On" internet connection of some type? Even if not, sending a few Kb/s to a authentication is hardly going to kill them.

/Rant off

So if you buy this game from Steam you can only install it 3-4 times in total?

I bought it on Steam and I never noticed that disclaimer. Pretty annoyed if that is the case as I could have saved £5 and bought the retail and had 4 installs per month is required.

I must have missed that bit of info.

Modded Batman costumes.

Are you really going to install 4 times per month?

Even if you do, a quick email to Valve would resolve the issue.

That is not relevant. How about 4 times in 2 years? Even then I still can't install it if all I ever have is 4 installs max. So 4 times in 1 day or 4 times in 10 years, time is not a factor here. So does anybody have actual confirmation that if you buy from Steam you get 3-4 downloads maximum no matter how quickly you use them?

Who told you that?

It is 4 ACTIVATIONS per month :)

So, if you need to reinstall, I assume backing up your STEAM Batman folder may prevent re-activation.

From the STEAM Batman AA info page:

3rd-party DRM: SecuROM™
4 per month machine activation limit

That is MACHINE activation limit.

Meaning you can only install on 4 Different computers per month. I doubt there are many who fulfill that criteria.

Remember, 4 Machines per month, that does not mean you cant install on 16 machines in 4 months.

Who told you it was 4 for the rest of your life? That is laughable.

That is what I mean by these clowns who overreact when they hear "DRM", they are mostly the pirates who dont even verify what they are saying/writing, they will just bad mouth something without having a clue about the subject matter and making other people angry.

Leave it around 10-15 mins what happens is for now to limit piracy the only way to get the patch and for it to work properly is via GFWL so its getting hammered for bandwidth. It only took me about 10 mins just leave it as the progress bar is not accurate. When its done the game will quit to desktop and it will ask you to install the patch. When you have done this you also get access to the free DLC via GFWL.

Avoid signing into live on both PC & 360 at the same time as it messes up your profile because MS monitor this. I learnt the hard way and took me a while to recover my 360 profile as first 2 attempts it would not retain the profile on the console.

Ahmen brother.

Even if you did and contacted them, I doubt they would say "On yer bike".

Mate I agree 100% with everything you say :D

Its because of these damn people the genuine PC gamers have to suffer these console friendly, multiplatform ports, delayed releases, DLC (paid or not) as a form of DRM & or DRM in the first place :(

< guff about DRM >

The ultimate issue with restrictive 'stick' (I'm going carrot/stick here if that confused you) DRM is that it achieves pretty much nothing to prevent piracy.

Take Batman - it has activation limits and that odd no gliding thing. Neither of which are present in the pirate version that was available before the game even released here. An astounding victory for DRM i'm sure you'll agree.

'Stick' DRM never works, never has worked and never will work and it is beyond me why companies still insist on using it. It only ever has a negative effect on their paying customers.

'Carrot' DRM, such as Steam however, has worked better. Give the user a tangible benefit such as the portability, convenience and integration of Steam and people are more likely to buy.

Sooner or later DRM needs to take a massive step up to actually being virtually impossible to defeat or it needs to go away entirely.

It's like having security tags on clothes that don't actually set off any alarms if you leave the shop with them and can be removed at home. What's the point? Doesn't stop any stealing and has a negative effect on paying customers who end up with tiny holes in some of their clothes.

Hey guys,

Got my copy from the Z place the other day and have finally got round to installing it! I remember reading somewhere here that installation was a bit of an issue because the games updates are installed at the same time?

Well my installation was faultless but when I run the game I only appear to be running v1.0 :( Before I start playing, I'd like to be right up to date - so is there a way to manually get the update/s? The patch/s don't appear to be on any of the usual game update sites?

Cheers!

Anyone having trouble blocking attacks? I press the right hand mouse button, as indicated on screen, and I pull out my batarang ... what am I doing wrong? I'm using mouse and keyboard.
