Hi All

I've never played any of the Batman games before..but I really like the look of Arkham Knight. Do I need to have played any of the previous games to understand the storyline? Have I been missing out?

Oh, people mustn't post things kmtech can't stand!

It's a fairly valid question, I can't answer because I haven't played them properly, but don't be moaning that people are spamming and that they shouldn't do it because you don't like it. Your post was actually spam, so think before you moan again, because "I can't stand" thoughtless posts.

I haven't played this one yet, but going off the progression from 1 to 2, I'd say no, you don't have to have played them and given that all 3 are very similar I'm not sure I'd want to play them all together as it'd spoil the experience.

At this point, I'd just play the new one.

The stories look to be pretty self contained - as is the case with most comic book media...they pretty much always make them so you can enjoy each individual one on it's own

I certainly didn't feel Arkham City followed a particular plot through from Arkham Asylum.

I think Asylum does a better job of introducing you to the style of combat in the game. All of the options available can be a bit overwhelming as you're dropped straight into the world in the new game.

You're missing out on two great games if you skip to this.

Not to far in to AK, but I would say there is no need to have played the previous games. AK does a fair job of explaining what's going on via radio chatter and character bio's.

In terms of missing out, yes. Asylum and City were both awesome games which everyone should play. Just brought both for my PC (had PS3 before) so I can replay them.

I found Asylum really good at giving you information via collectables that were worth hunting for (audio tapes in particular). Not being a Batman fan, I found these really interesting and it got me quite interested in Batman through an introduction to the villains.

I didn't like Batman because I am not fond of the character himself - but the villains are some of the best in all of comics so I can now see why it's so popular.

No need to have played the previous games, there's plenty of training missions included so if you like the look of it get it.. from what I've played so far it's really good :)

This is spot on. You're not missing out on much story wise (though an important bit in Arkham City is referenced early in the game), but the gameplay does carry over from previous games so having that background will make the game "feel" better I think.

As mentioned, both Arkham Asylum and City are great games, and well worth playing.

Tumble weed.......

It will click eventually right :p

As a follow up, I didn't realise there is 4 games. I have played the first 2, but seem to have missed/skipped Origins. Am I missing much, or is the basic gameplay the same as City? Storyline wise I guess I miss some stuff as Origins was a prequel.

I see people ask this about games all the time, and generally the answer is "it doesn't matter". Developers/publishers aren't going to possibly allienate a whole new audience who haven't played the games before by making it so that you HAVE to play them for it to make sense/enjoy it.

I never played Witcher 1 or 2, but Witcher 3 has made perfect sense so far. Just buy it and play it, and if you need a back story then read about it.

Wise words.

I'd personally play the previous games first just because they are good and really cheap now. However you won't miss out on anything the internet can't tell you or reading some of the character back stories etc.

Like ScarySquirrel I haven't played Witcher 1 & 2 but after playing Witcher 3, I'm not interested in playing the first two just because of 3.
