I left my laptop in suspend before I went away I was getting 5-6 hours ott of it. Cane back 3 days later and I cant get it to charge.

Would it really die that quickly?

acer.

I was running Fedora 26, I thought it might have been connected to going flat whilst hibernated. I have reinstalled win 7 on fresh drive to no avail.
When I plug in the ac instead of a solid orange light(charging) I get a flashing orange light.

Hmm. Does your Acer still have any warranty left?
If not, try to recycle your battery. There are services available who change the cells inside, restart the electronics cycles count, thus making them new (great :D) again. Try to recover yours.

Flashing orange light means it's done. Older batteries will give less hours over time, newer ones give you max juice til the end (like drill batteries etc).

My Acer battery lasted 2 years, it was rarely off mains.

Replacements can be had for 25-50 quid on Amazon (top end being a genuine part).
