My sister's trusty old Polo needs a new battery, but I know nothing about them. Putting the reg into Amazon, RAC, Halfords, etc. gives a range of options.

The car isn't used very often and the battery keeps running flat, so a new one is in order.
I know absolutely nothing about car batteries, so I'm confused that when I put the reg into the RAC shop, for example, it recommends me a BOSCH S5 BATTERY TYPE 027, but amazon.co.uk says that isn't compatible with the car..

Is it even worth splashing out on a Bosch for a little old Polo, or will a generic Halfords one do?
This is what's currently in there..

TIA!

Indeed it is, but Halfords/RAC, etc recommend anything from 40Ah to 63Ah..

063 means nothing to be. Unlike tyres, I have no idea what the numbers on a battery mean :p

CCA is the strength. Ah is the capacity. Higher numbers help in very cold weather and if the car does infrequent or short trips.

Literally typing 063 40Ah an 340 cca in to Google throws up shopping options for batteries

As would throwing in some tyre sizes if I were shopping for tyres.
Is it worth buying a known brand?

Case in point - ECP shows 012, 027 and 063 batteries for the reg. WTF does this mean?

Battery type likely varies by engine code. From memory VAG had a few different power outputs of 1.4 available.

The Lion one is probably fine. Depends if the extra warranty is worth the outlay on a Bosch/Varta etc.

Try carparts4less, think they're the online arm of EuroCarParts. When I needed a battery a couple of years ago they were by far the cheapest if you used an easily available discount code.

There's a difference between tyres and batteries. A battery's labelling tells you what it does, unlike a tyre where the sizing gives you no real clue on performance.
You've got the information there on what you need as a start point, obviously as you've suggested Bosch is an option but why not check out ecp or another decent car part site?

Found another 14% discount code for carparts4less as well. £100 Bosch S4 for under £50 delivered. Why even bother looking ECP?
Thx again bud :)

Yeah, I know. If you don't need it there and then it's a great deal. I got a mate who drives past to give me a lift to work for a day, and saved £60.
