Battery Life in Vostro

It seems that only a 6 cell battery is available for the Vostro and not the 9 cell that is available for the other laptops. This bothers me as it restricts running time away from power.

Could anyone say how long the Vostro lasts on battery power? I found a review that talked of less that 3 hours which wouldn't get me through some meetings.

Thanks

When fully charged the power meter reckons my 1700 will last 3 hours, and thats with no battery optimisation.

If you're just using something 'light' like word, you dim the screen and enable power saving modes you should get just over 3 hours 15 mins with the 6-cell, I do on the Vostro 1500 with XP (but I have the older T7250 not the newer Penryn chip so the newer ones will probably get longer). With the 9 Cell battery I normally get just under 4 1/2 hours.

On my new Vostro 1510, it's just about the 3 hours with email/web browsing on a wifi connection.

Same here, browsing the web with wi-fi on and screen brightness a little over half I get just over 3 hrs with the 6 cell in my 1500 (with 8600M GT 256mb btw).

So if I think logically for a Vostro 1700 with Nvidia 8600M 256 Mb the battery life will be shorter? Does anyone know by how much? I cannot find a review discussing this issue.

Cheers

Well thanks for the responses, folks. I had rather hoped that we might be over 3 hours but it seems we cannot get a 9 cell battery for the Vostro so I think I'll look at other models to see if I can do better.

you can get them as far as im aware they are just not avalible as a customisation option when ordering

Lol, didn't everyone in the thread say over 3 hrs? :)

Big screen and a heavy duty graphics card (for a laptop!) really don't help with the battery life. My relatively base spec Vostro 1500 will easily run for 3-4 hours without a problem just doing web stuff. :)
