Hi gents

Wondering how the battery life is with an iphone 3gs 16gb?

Never had an ipod or iphone before, but at work (tesco) there's a pretty good staff deal arrived recently. A black/white iphone 3gs 16GB with unlimited texts/calls/data is £33.75pm for 24 months.

I'm bored of my HTC Touch Pro crashing, being slow, not working properly, poor signal etc.

In this unbiased forum, should I take the plunge?

The iphone is awesome, although I would be a little cautious as there is a new version expected around summertime, probably June, so I would be wary of signing a 2 year deal for the 3GS now.

That aside though, battery life is not too bad, but with any sort of medium to heavy use with gaming/net/movies etc, expect to be charging it every day, and possibly even needing a top up during the day.

With my 3G for instance, if I only use it for light browsing, phonecalls and texting, with a small amount of gaming then I can stretch 2 days out of it.

If I were to watch say a full footy match streamed over the internet, then at the end of the match it can be ready for charging

I'm unqualified to say if the iphone is for you really, I love mine and wouldn't have anything else but each to their own in this respect.

Battery life sucks. I get a day if I'm lucky out of it (I am a fairly heavy user though), it's bad enough I make a habit of carrying my work phone round too so I don't get caught without a phone. There are ways round it (various external battery packs or carry the charger etc) but for me it's by far the most disappointing aspect of the phone...

Are there not likely to be new versions released each year though? I do understand what you're saying though Diggs.

Yeah there are, but do you really want to be tied in for 2 years, missing 2 new versions potentially?

There is a strong possibility that a new model will be released June/July time, so if I were you I would sit tight until then.

Don't bother. Not cos its not worth it, it's a great device but rumours suggest the new one is just around the corner now.

That's the reason why I didn't buy a 3G S myself, the prices are almost the same as when it was released. Most ppl are well into their contract and coming out of it soon and I would have been just starting one on a similar price to what they paid a year or so earlier. Luckily I got an 3G one for free which is quite impressive tbh, and should tide me over nicely until the new one. Wait until summer I say :)

edit: Oh and to actually answer your que about battery life, its the worst thing about the iphone. It's such a great device you find yourself using it quite a lot hence battery life suffers. If they can improve just that on the one, it will be something!

Alright guys thanks for the advice. The offer is a permanent one so there is no rush, I shall wait until news about the new device.

Cheers
