Battery nearing the end of its usable life!

Hi all, just a quick question, i don't have much details on the laptop itself other than its a dell maybe a d510 (as its a work college and I got emailed the info just now) but the laptop wont switch on and did have 'Battery nearing the end of its usable life!' coming up at boot up i think.

Is this the main laptop battery that is finished and needs a replacement or is it the mobo battery?

Probably the main battery; does it work if you plug it in and turn on the machine without the battery inserted?

as its not my laptop and i dont have access to it at the mo im not sure, but I should find out in the next few mins as im going to try and find my college who has the problems.

It'll be the main battery. Dell ones don't seem to last that long these days - I've just had to replace one at 13 months old on my D620.

Where would be the best place to get a new battery, dell themselves?

Auction sites maybe, but make sure it's new. Actually there's loads of places that specialize in laptop batteries, just do a web search for your model and battery.
