Battery Not Detected

Hi guys,

Had my Vaio for around 2-3 years now. Have upgraded the hard drive as I ran out of space but other than removing keys to clean & getting the dust out of heatsinks it's not really been 'tampered' with.

A week or two ago when awaking my laptop from sleep mode I noticed the battery logo now has a red cross and is stating no battery detected. I always have it running off the mains as I rarely take it anywhere anymore.

I've had a look in device manager and everything seems alright in there. Also rebooted numerous times, had the battery out, given the connectors a quick wipe/blow but still nothing

It was getting VERY VERY hot due to a clogged heat sink which is now clean & dust free and now running much cooler.

Any other suggestions/pointers?

Thanks in advance,

BennyC

Hey Benny

I had the exact same thing happen to my Vaio VGN-AR11M which is also around 3 years old (Nov 2006). You need a new battery by the sounds of it. I still haven't bought a new battery for mine as they are too expensive. You can get cheaper unofficial battery's from various websites but I don't really trust the 3rd party products. I just keep mine on ac power wherever I go.

I just remembered that if you go to mscofig and stop isbmgr.exe from running at startup, this may have some effect...it didn't with my battery (although I only think this allows you to use unofficial batteries in your vaio, it may not help your current battery)

Thanks for the reply and clearing that up :)

I'll make do with mains until I decide to replace this laptop as it is a bit dated now but will wait until it totally packs in!

Thanks again.

No problem. I'm doing the same thing with my AR11M. Gonna use it until it either stops working or becomes too slow to be of use anymore. These sony's do last apparently so we could be in for a long wait before an excuse to upgrade LOL
